Butt, a cabbage and some smoked tomatoes

I was reading some recipes and looking at pics and it made me hungry so I decided to make some sides with my butt. Since it is just me most of the time (and Maximus, my doberman), I usually just fill up on pork and dont even bother with sides.

I read the recipe for the whole cabbage but when I got to the grocery they didnt have low sodium bouillon. They did have low sodium something else but without my glasses I couldnt tell if it was powder or what.... well it was "what". It was actually a bouillon paste. It looked good so I softened up a stick of butter, chopped up some bacon and added some garlic (the wet kind in the jar). Mixed it all up and put it in the cored out cabbage. I have know idea how this will come out but its on the smoker now

After the butt is done, I will make one of my old smoker recipes... smoked tomatoes.

Take some nice tomatoes and slice them in half. Cover each half with olive oil, pepper, garlic, rosemary and thyme. Let sit for 30 minutes then put on the smoker. They dont take long and are done by the time the butt has rested.

Pics to follow, fingers crossed on the cabbage

Maximus says hurry with the butt...

smoked cabbage many times...
never used bouillon...
two inch round and two inch deep core filled with soften unsalted butter flavoured with garlic and onion powders...
topped with bacon slices.
it's great stuff!

Here is everything off the smoker.

Did some blue cheese bread with it. The presentation isnt all that great but it was just me. Maximus loved the shoulder bone, lol. The cabbage was a little overdone but not bad for the first time. The butt turned out very good and I am looking forward to sandwiches at work tomorrow. I made my own rub which always make me feel more accomplished...

good looking grub, never tried a smoked cabbage but am a fan of cabbage in general. Who cares what you eat your food off of if it tastes great!
