Bottom grate help!

Ok well I bought a new 22.5" kettle charcoal grate from HD, but its pretty oily/greasy. It will fit as the bottom grate, but I really need to get the oil off it before I place meat on it. What is the best way? Use a de-greaser and water, or soak it in hot water with dish detergent?

Russ, A scrub brush and Greased Lightning if you have some, if not some Dawn would work well. "Dawn takes grease out of the way"

I need to replace the bottom grate ASAP. Do any of the big-box hardware retailers carry the 17" replacement? My tried and true local Ace Hardware doesn't have it. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Well, if I had read this yesterday, you could have borrowed my bottom grate for the weekend. I seldom use it anyway.

not to beat a dead horse, but i was at HD today and the 22.5 charcoal grates they had there were indeed unplated steel(dull grey) and they were not shrink wrapped, also they were very oily to stop from rusting on the shelf i think. the charcoal grate i bought from HD last year was shrink wrapped in plastic and was very shiney just like the WSM bottom grate. i wonder if that particular HD last year(i don't remember which one)just had the "wrong" grates at the time?
