Born again Weber smoker

I received a Weber smoker as a wedding gift almost 30 years ago, and it introduced me to smoking. Eventually, I gave it to a cousin-in-law. About seven or eight years ago I bought an electric pellet smoker for convenience (and used the #&$@ out of it), but missed that truer smoke flavor. A few weeks ago, I returned to my roots and bought a 22.5 in. WSM. So far I have smoked two chickens and (as of today) two pork butts. The pork I smoked today might be the best I've ever made.

I'm looking forward to learning from the more experienced Weber smokers here. Thanks for having me, and thanks in advance for putting up with me.

Welcome back! :) I actually just made the move to pellets, and I find I like the milder smoke. Different folks, etc, right?

I'm sure we've got some things to pick up from you, too, Jeff, so jump on in. Great bunch of folks here!

Welcome back to the tasty side! I get a kick out of folks that think they HAVE to go buy a couple hundred to a thousand dollar smoker, and my response is go get a Weber kettle for just over $100 and smoke anything you could want. They are that versatile

Enjoy!

I'm a fan of your first post! Regardless of what you're using, kudos to you for using and experimenting with an outdoor cooker. I bought an electric smoker that utilized wood chips in December 2015, then discovered the WSM a month or two later, which serves our family extremely well, along with inspiring me toward a new hobby for which I remain grateful. Of course, along the way, I added pellet smokers, Santa Maria attachments, charcoal and gas grills, etc. It is quite enjoyable, in my opinion.

The advantage of the WSM is that adjusting temperatures around 235F is veeeeeery easy.

Welcome to the forum Jeff, glad you joined us. Which side of the line are you on? Merriam resident here.

I think you are going to like this forum, lots of great people here with a wealth of knowledge. Everyone gets along really well.

I was talking more the pellet type, in the 5-1000 range that is typical. Since that’s what most folks think of when they think of a smoker.

Im working on my buddy and my boss, but they’re being frugal so the angle to get them into the lovely charcoal world is cheap🤣 I just need to do a smoke and let them taste the difference.

I would still like to add the 22” WSM to my arsenal.

Missouri side (Lee's Summit). But I have a couple of siblings on your side of the state line.
Hi Jeff - welcome to the forum. I'm also a MO resident but in the STL area. I travel around quite a bit and am looking forward to my next KC visit in a few weeks - hoping to visit Q39 over there again. I haven't been for quite a while now but we are ordering their "Zesty" Sauce by the case over the interwebs. GO CHIEFS!

Welcome back Jeff! Another KC area neighbor here in Olathe. We may need to organize a meet up sometime soon.
