Bob's Silver A

I had the pleasure of meeting up with
@BobH-SCW and his lovely wife. They only live about 15min. From my place in Arizona. Wonderful people. Also they're retired and I'm jealous lol. Anyways I went to his place last week and checked out his grills. That Recteq of his looks like a really nice grill! I have talked to Bob a couple times previously about his Silver A and after see how good of shape it's in I definitely think he should keep it. Especially since he put Dave Santana's custom grates and flavorizer bars in it. So I offered to split the task of refreshing the Silver A with Bob. I took home the lid, grates, flavorizer bars, and warming rack. I just finished them and he just came over and picked them up. He is going to cleanup the rest of the grill. The grease tray and cook box are fairly new. Another reason to keep it.

Bob you will have to post a picture of the grill when you are finished with your part. Also Bob I forgot to ask you how long you have had Dave's Grates and Flavorizer bars? They cleaned up nicely. The flavorizer bars were discolored black but absolutely no signs of wear.

Josh, as I promised you I will definitely do that! I purchased the grates and bars directly from Dave via Craigslist in early 2018 I believe before our last trek west to Az. I had cleaned up a Spirit 210 with fold down shelves and sold it to pay for the bars basically. The bars have been great, clean up real easy with the Charon (which I convinced Josh to pick up) and I do plan on keeping this grill and passing it on to my sons! I will finish the cleanup and then store my prize away.
The brief history of this grill is that it's a 2002 model that was cast aside at my wife's old Ace store. I pulled it out of the junk pile, restored it with new burners, igniter and elbow grease. The cookbox had endured a grease fire and the front was worked, so I got a new cookbook for it, then installed Dave's Grates and bars. Original ones were junk. The frame had the classic rusted out left side bolt and frame piece, so I had a new piece welded in; rest of frame mint! So, long story short, I have a 2002 Gen Silver A that was resurrected to new in 2018! I promise fully cleaned photos will show it in all its glory!
Also attached is our meeting photo. I am going to keep my eyes and ears open for future project deals in this Az marketplace. Old Arthur Itis has prevented me from continuing my own projects, but I will gladly be Josh's agent in the future!

I also picked up a titanium cutting board via amazon today and will report how it’s working out. Seems like it eliminates the contaminated food factor and is a snap to clean.

Looks like a great time!

I’m not always onboard with the newest, “latest, greatest” gizmo or product. I’ve never played an instrument with a pickup, (except pedal steel for a week) drink old cocktails, older whisky, or another man’s wife.
I’ve still got maple boards that I’ve been using for years, I have poly ones for outdoor use and for convenience of putting them in the dishwasher. Titanium for a cutting board? I don’t like the concept much, time will tell

I have my eye on a local black lid Genesis Platinum 1000. I'd like to grab it and restore it and run it next to my Jr. Not sure I'll have time to get this one but that would be ideal. I already have a full set of custom wood slat tables on Dave's SS Z-Metal and flip table hardware. Perfect for a black lid Platinum.

Does anyone know if the later Genesis 1000 grills came with this newer style LP tank scale? I haven't seen one on a x000.

I have seen a couple of Skyline series grills that were actually date coded to the year 2000 that had the newer style tank scale. The common belief is that they only made Genesis 1000 style grills through the 1999 model year and it turns out that this is not true. So, if that Genesis Platinum series was made in 2000 then the scale is the correct one for it. It's an interesting find if that's the case since I think that Weber just used up parts to produce these grills and I don't think there are a lot of them out there.

That's very interesting Steve. Thank you for that info!
