Better value today, Spirit E-330 or Genesis II E335?

Looking to replace a 12 year old Char Broil and thinking of making the jump to Weber. What do folks think is the better value currently for mid-sized propane, the Spirit E-330 (seems to have been a price drop to $730, available at Lowes/HD) or the Genesis II E335 at Costco for $1050? Kicking myself for not jumping on the Genesis when it was $899 at Costco a month or two ago.

We grill frequently and year round, split pretty evenly between gas and my 22" Weber kettle. Typically cooking for family of four, not much into entertaining. Occasionally might be cooking for 8-10, unlikely ever more than that. Really didn't want to go over $1000, that $1050 is basically the limit. Grills are outside on dedicated wood deck platform, using grill covers.

I do like side burners and actually use them. Will probably be using them more in the near future as indoors we replace a janky Electrolux gas cooktop with induction. Need something for charring tortillas for fish tacos!

Welcome John,

I would check Costco again. They had some E335 for $899

Here is a recent thread that may be if value.

Jump to page 7 for where it landed.

In reality, all you are giving up is a little cooking area. At the original difference in price of less than $100, I would have gone with the Genesis. At a $300 difference, the Sprit looks a better value. If you did not need the side burner, the new Genesis E-325 is a good value, but the side burner adds $300 to the sticker.

I'm the one who started the thread Dan referenced. I looked at the Spirit E-330 and the Genesis II E-335. They have the same features, Side Burner and Sear Zone. Where they differ is the Genny is larger, 669 vs 424 square inches and the Genny has stainless flavorizer bars vs the porcelain enameled ones you get on the Spirit. The Genny also has the heat deflectors where they seem to be absent from the Spirit. The tank also mounts outside the cabinet on the Genny.

I picked up the Genny at Costco two weeks ago for $899 US and don't regret it.

If it were me I'd do the $899 Costco version (which on my last trip there yesterday it still was).

Ditto. It was still $899 over the weekend at Costco (in-store price). If I was looking for one, I think that would be the one I would get. My Costco is out of the S-435 now (was $1199), but there were quite a few of the E-335 in stock.

Ok, I'm going to check out my Costco in person before pulling the trigger on the Spirit, I was going off the website price. Is the Genesis II E335 out of production now? Think I saw something to that effect, so if my local stores are out then I shouldn't expect a restock. Cheers, thanks for the advice.

This was available at Costco Folsom CA march 28, 2023.

UT date code which is 2023.

The Gen IIs are discontinued. Not sure why there are so many of those still available at Costco. But once those are sold off, that's it I think.

Think that is a fine grill for $900.

My guess is it was a special 2023 run for Costco to consume existing inventory of parts for the Genesis II but control the sales channel.

I'm hoping it becomes a regular thing at Costco to offer these. I'm sure they can't sell the new/current Genesis grills there, otherwise they'll be competing with all of the other authorized sales channels, and would not be able to undercut on price. But if they sell an old model, they probably have a little more free reign.

The tooling is already made, so I'm hoping they could find a way to keep making a club-only special grill in the future.

I’ve actually had both of these grills. I sold the Spirit E-330 when I had the SmokeFire and didn’t use the gasser at all (before flaky firmware updates drove me to return the SmokeFire). I bought the Costco Genesis to replace what I sold. They’re both nice grills. The Genesis can get a ton hotter though. Like if you have all the burners on high you’ll start singing the hair on your arms while flipping food hot. The Spirit gets just hot enough to sear a steak pretty well. I really like the extra punch on the Genesis when I’m cooking steaks.

I would go with the Genesis as long as you are OK with that price.

Way better yet, can you find something like this?

Close. About a half hour. While I see it as an amazing time warp - and certainly a way better grill than most modern ones, and therefore worth the price - that range of Silvers are just not my favorites. I don’t have $650 to spend on grills right now, but if I did there are other things I have seen that would interest me more. I would love to see someone who appreciates what it is give it a good home. I would be happy to “agent” it for someone here, although it has been listed for many months, so maybe not necessary.

Here is the other choice that I couldn't locate earlier. $400 for a great grill with the charm of an antique Jaguar, great cooking ability with its unsurpassed double-row flavorizer bars, and durability that has kept it going this long and will give you another 20 years with decent care and occasional replacement of consumable parts:

I also posted a posterity picture of the unused, new Silver C above.
