I thought it was made for stainless steel. I would not use it on cast iron. I wouldn't use any abrasive on cast iron. I believe it is an acid based product combined with abrasives specifically for a reaction with stainless. Is there a different type that is good for cast iron that wont ruin the patina you build on purpose?

BKF is the last thing I'd use on cast iron. This from The Barkeepers Friend web site:

"I’m going to begin this post with a warning. This article, tips for cleaning enameled cast iron, is only for enameled or lacquered cast iron cookware. BKF heavily advises AGAINST using BKF on regular, run-of-the-mill cast iron. So, please don’t attempt this on standard cast iron products."

I’ve never even considered BKF for cast iron! Why would you do that?
Thanks Bob for posting that from the BKF site.
Good for just about anything else though.

Totally agree, works a charm on stainless, enameled surfaces, ceramic. For anodized, I use “Bon Ami” doesn’t seem to mar or scratch that at all!
