baby backs and butt together - who's on top?

I plan on celebrating smoke day w/ babybacks and a bone-in butt. When it's time for the ribs to go on, what do I do w/ the butt? Is it safe/healthy to let one cook over the other?

I agree with Kevin. Also, you may already be planning this but you will find it much easier to start with the butt on the lower grate so u don't have to transfer it when it comes time to add the ribs.

With both being pork it will not matter. I have actually set my lower grate on top of the top grate at times. This might help you with having to lower the butt to the bottom if this is what you plan to do. Vince

Doesn't matter from a health perspective as long as it all gets cooked through. Generally you use the bottom grate for food that requires less handling when using both grates.

Thanks for the great advice. Butt's been on for 9.5. Ribs just got foiled. Everything's looking good.

Happy Smoke Day.
