Babies and Spares at the same time

So, in reading this board more here recently than I have had time to do in the past couple years, I'm so intrigued by the spare vs baby debate that I'm going to cook both this weekend! Figure I'll buy my traditional 3-pack of babys and a couple racks of spares and see what happens! So...in this case, considering cooking times and temps, I'm thinking of putting the spares on top and the baby's below - anyone have any ideas/reason I should switch that up? Considering I now have 2 WSM's after my amazing yard alse find on a new, un-used, assembled WSM ($80) I could fire them both up separately...but figure even for me, that is a little over the top...think I'm gonna give the new one it's break in burn...

I would think the baby backs would cook faster than the spares, in which case you might want to have them on the top rack in order to be able to more easily take them off when they're done. Or are you thinking that the spares would cook faster on top, so everything might get done at the same time?

(BTW, have you ever been to the Dixie Grill? That was my daughter's favorite place in Wilmington to go for breakfast.)
 
Yes Larry - I was thinking the higher heat in the top would help the timing of the cook - but I'm not sure that cooking spares in a shorter amount of time than normal is the best idea.

Dixie Grill...yeah boy, nice greasy spoon in downtown - I've eaten there as many times as my cholesterol levels will allow...they just did a nice remodel to upgrade a lot of their equipment, especially ventilation - because you would smell like that place all day - that's why we always ate breakfast there, pre-shower!
 
each way has its pros and con, one thing abouth the apares on top they will baste the BB's. Dont think youd have to worry about drying out any
 
I'm with Brian on this. I'd simply start the spares about an hour earlier, then add the babies down below. If necessary, you can hold the spares in a cooler until the babies catch up.
 
Yeah you can hold the spares for an hour or two no problem in a cooler. Especially if your looking for " fall off the bone" it would be wise to do this anyways.
