B and B oak/hickory briquettes?

Sounds like a cost cutting move. Cheaper to use a blend then all Oak.
My Son just picked up 4 bags of the new. I need to ask him what's his take as he's a long time orange bag user.

Picking up a bag of competition oak & hickory to try on new Smokey Joe. As Tim says, it's always a cost cutting move nowadays, but I'll see how they burn. TH couldn't tell any difference on the flavor so we'll see.

Here is what I got from Duraflame consumer affairs:

"Hey Todd,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

While we haven’t discontinued the Oak briquets, they are being phased out and replaced with the new Oak and Hickory briquets.

I know that this wasn’t the answer you were looking for but I hope I could help clarify.

Duraflame also makes Cowboy and my Son says the new stuff is not as good as the old. ( funky smell )
That's a bummer cause the old was like rebranded Stubbs.

This seems like a huge mistake. I will be switching to JD or FOGO briquettes. It only took them about 4 years to kill B&B. These once fine brands that get gobbled up and killed.

Wife got home from Ace and said the new B&B n/g, brought a bag of FOGO so dying to try it out. Just assembled my new Smokey Joe picked up new in box yesterday for $15! Also found a new chimney at Walmart for $5 so I got back into charcoal for a bargain! Burgers tonight for trial, but perhaps ribeyes over the weekend!

Not discontinued but phased out and not going to be available anymore... funny how some people see things.
Thanks for the information. Too bad they are making this change.

Can’t stop um but gonna be years before I buy anymore anyway and at my age most likely never buying any more, at least have told the CFO I shouldn’t. Never passed up a sale at Academy.

closeout at Walmart as they don't carry Weber any more-lucky find. btw-the FOGO worked out great! Burned just right, maintained temps a lot like Kingsford Pro, and the net result was the best burgers I've ever done.

Well it turns out I've been using the new B&B Hickory/Oak/Hardwood blend for awhile. I double checked my bags last night. I had ordered a good supply back in June thinking it was the "Oak" variety they had carried and I had ordered previously. The orange bag, while looking different than before, was not different enough for me to think twice about it and look closer at the details. I have probably gone through four or five bags of the new stuff. It is working fine for me. I have not noticed anything bad about it, except for maybe a little more ash.

I have been using it since my original post and really do not have anything bad to say other than what Rick said as there seems to be a little more ash,As for flavor I have no complaints.Burn time seems the same also.

used the FOGO twice now, not much ash, used very little in the Joe, 2nd batch of burgers came out amazing! Next time is steak.

I stocked up on the Competition Oak Briquettes 7.49 at Academy Sports.

Once those are gone I will not be using B&B charcoal again. They sold out to Duraflame and now ruining a product that was amazing.
