Attention western NC q'ers

Short Sugar's in Reidsville recently folded the tent after 60 or so years. This is a huge loss for the locals and those who grew up loving their que. BUT.....

As big a loss as the que is, the tragedy is the loss of the sauce. It was a thin vinegar molasses worcestershire brown sugar god knows what sauce. My wife was raised on it and considers it her second religion. Up until the close we traveled the six hours round trip to Reidsville several times a year and bought a gallon and put it up in mason jars. We gave it away to friends with my backyard pork, it was that good. And now it's gone. I have never found a copycat or anything close to this flavor. Every attempt I have made ends up.... badly.

I don't suppose anyone out there has had the pleasure of tasting this? And any luck duplicating it? I'd give my right arm for a recipe or close version. Wait, that's a lie.... I'd give my WIFE'S right arm. It is HER second religion, after all.

If anyone is interested I just learned that this sauce is being sold at a single location. Richards Meats & Things on Scales St in Reidsville. They are selling 16 oz bottles and are not shipping it at this time. They indicated they MAY begin shipping it sometime in early 2026.

As Tiny Tim would say, God Bless Us Everyone!
