I went apple picking at couple of local orchards and they had 4' X 4' x 4' bins of apple wood for $70.00. Is that a good price???
your thoughts..
Thanks

Hmmmmm .. Depends.. Around here, for firewood, most is mixed hardwood. A face cord of 4' x 8' x 16" or 18" goes for $75-85 .. All cherry is around $100. Depending on how it's cut, I might go for it. If it's just branches, I wouldn't but if it's larger pieces that I could cut up or use in a fire place, I would.

I think the first questions will be:

a) is it limb or trunk wood??
b) is it split or in logs
c) is it "seasoned" and not rotting

I know most orchards my way have piles of limb wood but it's usually left outside and the bottom foot is typically rotting. People have varying opinions on limb wood. I find it's ok, but that's just me.

If my math is right, seems like a pretty good deal (64 cu.ft. vs. 48 cu.ft.) up against Bill's example as long as it's cut and seasoned like both guys above say.
