Well that is kind of nuts. Was it with USPS? I've looked at it but crazy expen$ive for me.I would, if they ever decide to deliver it. Since ordering it’s been in American Fork Utah, Salt Lake City Utah, Indianapolis Indiana, Roanoke Virginia, Greensboro North Carolina, back to Indianapolis and, for the last two days in Louisville Kentucky, 45 miles from my house. Will it finally arrive or will it go back to Indianapolis for a third time. Your guess is as good as mine.
I researched a bunch of probes and I felt like the Thermoworks RFX was the best option.
Yep. USPS. Website says it will be delivered tomorrow. I’ll believe it when I hold them in my hands.Well that is kind of nuts. Was it with USPS? I've looked at it but crazy expen$ive for me.
ThermoWorks updated the app (just before thanksgiving) so that you can group probes and base together - allows all to be integrated onto one graphThe only valid complaint I've seen about this, and it's not an issue for me at all, is that the probes and gateway charts are separate. They are basically treated as separate entities, so if you have two probes, you get three charts (the third being the gateway obviously). I use this with my WSK and I have no trouble with the gateway reading the probes. The only issue I did run into was that a probe didn't seem to fully charge, but I realized later it's because I was being a dope and I didn't scrub off the smoke residue off the exposed ends, and one of the charger contacts connects there. After a little scrub, they're working perfectly. I was able to get 15 hours out of the probes without a recharge.
The only thing I've encountered that blocks the signal of the probes badly is foil. As long as I've had the end of the probe sticking through, no problem at all.
My setup is with the gateway close to the grill and connected to wi-fi. I have monitored things while away from home and that also worked flawlessly.
I think it's a great setup and I have used it for several overnight cooks.
I'm happy to answer any questions you have, and thanks for sharing the sale.Might be time for me to get two more probes!edit: whoops, this time the probes aren't on sale separately like they were when I got my kit.
JohnI have one. Been using it for a couple months now. Any questions in specific that you had about it?
Why wasn't I notified of this response?! These forums I tell ya. Haha man I smoked yesterday and wish I saw thisThermoWorks updated the app (just before thanksgiving) so that you can group probes and base together - allows all to be integrated onto one graph
Look for the “+” in lower right corner of app
Nice write up and thanks for your time Fraser. If you’re on the fence, just buy it. You will NOT regret.
I was one of the ‘early adopters’, unusual for me. Originally, I had three requirements: 1) I wanted to use inside the SV bag, being fed up with such-and-such temp for so-and-so time. Also for reheating where there’s scant recommendations. Yes, I tried the thru-the-bag needle probes & tape, unmitigated disaster. 2) Rotisserie. Got tired stopping the motor, taking a temp, start spinning again, reset timer, etc. 3) Frying. Yes, i use wired probes that are oil temp rated but it’s still a tangle.
I started off with the Meater2+, worked great but couldn’t stand the app (every time I tried to set a pull-temp alarm the %#$& thing wanted me to pull 10F earlier to Rest. Annoying).
I’ve been using TW products for years so when they came out with the RFX I jumped on it. It met all three requirements and, surprise, much more. The RFX has essentially replaced my Signals (one exception is ribs where I use a needle). The range is unbelievable. Really. I’ve done smoked, reverse-seared steak on the Yoder while baking a potato in the oven. Think about that: one probe in the steak under 10ga steel, across 70’ to the patio door, thru the door, 60’ thru rooms in an ‘electrically’ noisy house to the kitchen and into the oven where the other probe is in the tater! No drops, slips or spills! Granted, that’s well within their ‘advertised’ range but this is a real house!
Hope this helps!
