Any Computer Experts in Da House?

Yeah same here. I pretty much never shut the units down. I think it's the secret. Yeah it's just a bit pokey to me. Especially start up. It's like watching paint dry. I see Sam's has the same unit but with 500gb SSD. I may return this one for that. But the lack of being able to turn off the touch pad bugs the heck outta me. I hate the things. The instruction manual for the unit says there is one in the function keys but nope not on mine

The SSD drive will be much faster on startup as for disabling the mouse try this in Windows.

Go to Settings>Devices>Touchpad>Additional Settings you should see up top the Touchpad highlighted and it will say enabled. Hit disable it will ask you to verify when you do it will be disabled.

Not sure why HP is so different I have a Lenovo and what I said works. Try this from HP Support:

Disabling the Double Tap to Enable or Disable TouchPad (Windows 10, 8)
  1. Click Start , and then type mouse in the search field.
  2. Click Change your mouse settings.
  3. Click Additional mouse options.
  4. In Mouse Properties, click the TouchPad tab. ...
  5. Uncheck Double Tap to Enable or Disable TouchPad. ...
  6. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Trust me it's not there. I am totally well versed in this procedure having done it literally hundreds of times. This unit does not have it

Stumped but on page 20 of the user guide at least the one I found for that model laptop this is what it says.

Touchpad Touchpad settings To adjust touchpad settings and gestures, or to turn off the touchpad: 1. Type touchpad settings in the taskbar search box, and then press enter. 2. Choose a setting.

OK Bingo. On my link installed on the puter itself it says there is a touchpad control button, no mention of the settings

After reading this thread my takeaway is that Larry still knows how to do Date Night.;)
OK totally confused on this one
Seriously?!?!?

Your initial post started with:

"So yesterday wife and I settle in for dinner and a movie night. Fixed a delish steak dinner with trimmings. Had a glass of "white Malbec" on the little side table next to me."

And you can't figure out the concept of "Date Night"?!?;););)

Honestly at the time I didn't know where you were going with it. :D Brain has been a little "rattled" lately. Lots of $hit going on making my head spin

So I assume that worked its a little confusing calling it a touchpad control buttion as I think most people would look for a button. This video providing you have the same setup shows how to turn it on and off without going into settings. Its basically double tapping on the upper left corner of the touchpad.

Doesn't work on mine. BTW I think this thing is going to go back to Costco. It's really pretty disappointing. Has twice the RAM, faster 5400 rpm SATA HDD, many generation later I5 processor than the one I spilled the wine on and compared to it, it's pooooookey. Takes minutes to boot up even though fast boot is on (hate to see it off. I would grow a beard :D. Simple tasks take longer (except burning a DVD that was faster). Hell even the even older ASUS I have with a 1st gen I5 is at least as fast. Definitely this thing is not up to the hype generated by it's specs.
Sam's Club has this same machine but with an 11th or 12th gen processor I5, actual discreet graphics, 2 drives 256gb SSD for OS and cache, 1tb HDD for storage. Has 8gb ram not 12 though but I think this one effectively doesn't really have 12 due to the non discreet graphics processing.
It's $50 more but Sam's gives not only full 2 year warranty like Costco but 2 years of accidental damage replacement included whereas Costco wants another $100 for that. Decisions decisions

I think that is a wise choice the SSD drive will boot up twice as fast do you really need 1tb of storage? I have 500GB SSD drive I have 83% of it free, I store my pictures and don't have tons in Google Drive they give you 15GB free. Many ways to skin a cat and yes lots of decisions as I assume you are going to have it a long time. 8GB of memory for most people is sufficient 4GB is not which is why the lower end PC's come that way. You can run 4GB put its not a lot of money to go from 4 to 8.

Larry have you considered refurbished I have owned 2 in the past no issues save a bit of money especially if your looking for an SSD drive which I strongly recommend.
