Nothing special here, I did it exactly the way Chris did it... BUT, it was a big step drilling such a large hole in my beloved cooker and that's why I want to share ;)

Nicky you might want to touch up the porcelain on the outside of the lid with a bit of paint. Inside will be fine it will just gunk up.
First time drilling is a bit unnerving. You will appreciate having the thermometer though that's for sure.
 
Nice job. Always traumatic taking a drill to that kind of finished metal. You done good. :wsm:
 
As a note to others, using a step drill bit will make nice clean holes without chatter or chipping.

Just run a pilot hole and slowly step it up to the desired size. Then just touch it on the other side and the hole will be perfectly reamed.

Even a cheapo $3 step drill will work wonders.
