Another 56" Vieluxe Restore

My spit is 3/8” in diameter and drops down to 1/4” at the point where it goes in to the motor. It is approximately 46” long and is clearly original.

It sounds like you have the motor part solved. Mine will arrive from an eBay seller soon.
My Vieluxe spit is 3/8” square throughout its length and tapers to 5/16” square at the tip that engages into the motor drive

And if it’s like mine, the smoke burner and igniter were fully intact if extra heat or flavor needed
Fortunately, the smoker box burner seems to be the only one that escaped the doom the others suffered due to two decades of overwhelming neglect. It probably wasn’t used that much, and the smoker box helped shield it.

If need be Jon IIRC the burners can sub'd with 1st gen Summit burners. IIRC the fireboxes were made with the same "geometry". But Ray may be able to enlighten further on it

The OG summit burners will be 0.5in shorter and the flame will start very close to the front panel of the cook box - but it really is the only option if you can’t salvage the Vieluxe burners

I would probably consider welding closed the first few orifices to keep the flames off the front panel

Can’t recall where the ports for the igniter shoot relative to the front panel though…

How about late model Genesis burners? They might be closer in length but I've never looked at one so IDK how they fasten internally

Made a little more progress last night…found this igniter kit on Amazon, and turns out the module is almost an exact copy of the original ones on the Vieluxe! I plugged one in real quick last night and got spark at the igniter. Unfortunately, I can’t find the module by itself, so had to buy 2 whole kits, but seems like it’s going to work!

This is the kind of advice/links that will be of great help to others that might find and take on a Vieluxe project. I appreciate you sharing the link and your actual experience.

I wish I had seen this, although I think the NOS ones that amazingly came with my grill should work. I had to get the button igniter part as the leftovers only included one. The one in your linked set looks identical to the Vieluxe one except for the red button that was black on the Vieluxe. (Easy fix if you are so inclined!)

You’re welcome! Yes I ordered the two new correct Vermont Castings buttons as well so hopefully should have this grill fully operational in the next week or so!

In other news, I did hear back from Dave (RCplanebuyer) and he is going to make me a full set of flavorizers and smoker tubes. He sent me a picture of the sets he’s done in the past and they look awesome!!

I plan to order from Dave, but I am spreading out my purchases. I hope to get more disassembly and cleaning done by Saturday so I can accurately assess what I need.
