Also need some Kingsford Competition advice

I'm going to do a butt in my WSM using Kingsford competition charcoal. Has anyone tried to Minion method with it? Can I expect it to last a good long time overnight, or do I have to worry about waking up to a cold smoker?

You always have to worry about waking up to a cold smoker until you get to know your smoker and your fuel. Anymore, I don't even use the wireless remote thermometer. I just get it going and once it settles in, I know I can get some shut eye (not much but some). At the very least, no matter the fuel, you need to fill and pack the ring for the maximum time without refueling. Generally people can get 12+ hours on a full ring so with a full ring and getting some sleep early on in the cook, you shouldn't have to worry about refueling.

You shouldn't wake up to a cold smoker - if you do it's probably not because of the charcoal. I found the competition blend to have noticebaly less life than regular Kingsford, but it had planty of fuel to go overnight.

I used it to cook an 8-9 pound butt using the MM. I started with as much unlit as I could fit in the ring, adding about 20 lit to start. The cook took a little over 13 hours and I closed the WSM when I pulled the butt. I had virtually no coals leftover so I got lucky and evidently just made it. 13 hours, not bad though and once I settled in at about 250-260 at the lid, it held there very well.

depends on when you start it and when you get up in the morning

if you start it at 6pm and sleep till noon... might have an issue. if i got the wsm running overnite i just toss some pants on if i happen to be up for a drink or a bathroom run and check the coals through the door and give em a poke if it looks dicey i toss some more unlit in.

knowing your particular wsm will tell ya when you need to check. mine can go a solid 12 hours with no worries.
