adding a lid thermometer to a 22 inch kettle

Apologies, but I can not seem to find this searching. I'd like to add one to my One touch platinum.

questions:
Which thermometer? 2 inch? 3 inch? I'd rather not do a huge hole...

What range? up to 500F ? I don't expect to be going nuclear, but I do vortex.

Where to locate? I've seem videos with suggestions for different locations. Any guidance on the alternate locations or should I install it where weber did on the mastertouch etc.

tnx,

ps: If this is covered already, please just point me to the existing thread.

I would install where Weber installs the therm for the MasterTouch. It won't get in the way of anything you cook. If you want to measure near the grate, might as well measure on the grate with a probe therm.

I would use a therm like the Tel-Tru BQ-225 that has a range up to 700*F so that normal operations won't exceed that range...2" dial, 2.13" stem. Only requires drilling a small hole. Cover the area with painter's tape, mark the spot with a pen, and drill using a Unibit or similar to the correct size.

Thanks Chris. I've looked at a bunch of writeups and they all seem to have some advantages and drawbacks.

I'll checkout that Tel Tru.
