Add Me to the Caster Club

Just added casters to the bottom of my 18" WSM legs. Let me just say if you are on the fence about doing this, I wish I hadn't waited as long as I did.

I put them on my 22" before I ever used it. Makes moving it around SO much easier. Took all of five minutes to do. IMO, it's a mandatory upgrade to make. Just very easy and makes life tons easier. If your WSM doesn't spend all its time in just one spot, it needs to be done.

Did the same with my 18.5 WSM - 4" locking casters before the first use, that and the 2nd grate wired crosswise.

I just roll my WSM to the designated patio spot visible from the back window along with a splat mat for cook days, then back to the side for stowing when done.

I wish l'd have put the 4" casters on mine. The 2" ones l have are fine for the patio but l could use the 4" casters to transport from the shed to the patio. Road trip to Lowes again. :-)

I used 3" but, mine stays on the patio. At the time, I figured 4" was overkill, but then again........:p

Yeah - I went 4" cuz I have a section of flagstones and rock from the back patio to the side, the 4" makes it easier to roll thru that part. Still rough, but doable.

Say - maybe I'll add suspension to the casters as a performance mod! ;)

how about some pic of the MOD be nice to see the look guys :)

Sure thing!

Here is a shot of my 18.5" WSM with 4" casters I got off of Amazon: 2 are locking, 1 is free turning

I drilled the legs with a 3/8" metal bit and used washers above and below along with a rubber grommet that I sandwiched in the hole.

Here is a closeup of one of the locking casters:

The top grate measures out to a height of 34"

The overall height of the WSM to top handle is 45 1/2"
