Have never seen a Weber like this before. Neat.

If you're in the market, snatch it up. Check out the details on the kettle collector's forum, but I am confident the glass door Genny is a pretty rare bird. Three burner, side burner, stainless hood, old school wooden side tables...if I were within 200 miles, I wouldn't give you a chance at it.

Jeff - even though it's super cool, I'm not in the market. I have a Silver B and a Charcoal Performer, and real estate is limited in the backyard, so the extra space for side burner is non-existent.

I notice that you have a BGE, Kettle and Gasser. I'm debating getting rid of my performer and replacing with a Kamado Joe (or Large BGE). I don't have room for 3 grills.

What's your take? I'm not sure if I'm fascinated with a new toy, or if I'd actually use it a lot.

The BGE is an excellent smoker and a decent grill, but without some modifications, you can't create a two-zone fire like you can in a kettle. The more I use this method in the kettle the more I wish the Egg had a way to do it. I might get inventive and make something...it would be easy enough, but my point is, that is a very valuable technique that the Egg Heads say you don't need. If I were doing it again today, I would look at the oblong Primo and most likely go that way. The Primo does have facility for a two zone fire, and the oblong shape lends itself well to briskets and ribs, my two favorite cooks.

Oddly enough that you ask the question, as in 1999 I sold a Performer to get my first Big Green Egg. I think if I had been a part of this community and had learned to get the most out of my Performer, I might not have done that.

On the other hand, the Medium Big Green Egg that I bought in 1999 I just sold a couple weeks ago for exactly what I gave for it brand new. How many grills hold 100% of their value over time?

Not sure what type of cooks you're looking to do with the Egg that you can't do with the Performer, but if it were my money today, knowing what I know now, I would get a Cajun Bandit Stacker, a CB Rotisserie a few fire bricks and take the other 750 dollars I didn't spend and head to the meat market.

Weber Genesis 5000 NG, not a Skyline I think. (They have Skyline logo on the hood??)

Top of the range in its day.Great restore project, and still has the removable metal side table I see.

Not from experience - but from research, the kamado joe has a system called divide and conquer - which offers a two zone system. It fits the bge.

I'd use it for what I do now on the grill and hopefully smoke briskets etc. Another allure is 1000 degree for pizza. Very sexy.

Yep yep. A very hard to find grill, especially with the glass still intact and with the side table.

We just picked up this 5000 model in Mauve. It was used for one season and kept in a garage. The glass doors are perfect, the whole thing needs a clean and some TLC. It came with a sales book dated Jan 1993 and the original owners manual.

Great find! We had to do a complete restore on our green 5000. Plenty of work, but I learnt a lot, and it was a lot of fun.

The Flame check valves eventually seem to 'fail' themselves, and Weber do not seem to carry them, however you can bypass them fairly easily, and this actually makes them more useful.

Thanks for sharing the sales brochure.

Enjoy!
