'95 Genesis 1000 LX Build - Not a Keeper

I was very close to saying F the durawood bottom rack for a wire one. lol

I cant wait to put it all together and play the "which lid looks best" game! I think the black mica (grey) with the durawood could look very nice together!

Part of me also wants to put the original lid on it, since its all "original" less one Z bar and control panel. But it has some pretty slight fade, and I think with as far as I have gone on this I want something that will really pop.

Caffeine kicked in! Letting the valves sit in penetrating oil overnight. Working on the z bars and hardware for the tables and bottom.

The z bars take a long time to blast and my ADD only lets me focus on those for a little bit at a time.
What exactly is this contraption the frame is posted up on for painting?

Are you gonna use it on the frame corners where it always tends to rust?
Yup. That’s the plan. Is either going to be great or horrible. I feel there’s no in between.

Can anyone tell me if heating these can harm them. I haven’t had any of this style apart and the screws are feeling like they aren’t going to budge.

-Disregard, tried a different screwdriver. The one I always used on those in the past didn't work, but a bigger one did. I was getting nervous about stripping it out.

This is good time to remind everyone that these screw heads in the gas valves are posidriv. And yes, it makes a huge difference vs a phillips screwdriver tip in removing a stuck screw and/or whether the brass head strips out or not.

The bit I usually use (bottom), versus the regular snap on #2 screwdriver that broke them loose no problem. I always use the posidrive bit, and it wasn't grabbing well. I also noticed these screws didn't have the X posidrive markings.

Those screws looked like regular Philips head screws to me. You do see some difference in valves from time to time.

I’m a right tool for the job kinda guy. Aside from hammers. Anything within reach can be a hammer. Speaking of tools.

So it’s a little bigger than needed (as soon as I post this I’ll be scrounging thru Amazon for a smaller option) but it absolutely did the job I was looking for. I don’t have a small sawzall (yet), however it made pretty quick work of the rusty welds. About 5-10 seconds. I can also see it coming in handy for a bunch of other stuff, both grill and actual job related.

I would be interested to see how it would work on cookbox clean-ups for those who don’t have access to sandblasting, or the not-to-be-named muscular folks who somehow enjoy the punishment of grinding out a cookbox 🤣
