What's the most weight a 22" Weber rotisserie can handle? I'm thinking about a 12-13 lb. turkey for Thanksgiving. Thanks!

Brad

The owners manual does not specify maximum weight, only this:

"If foods are too heavy or are irregular shapes, they may not rotate well and should be cooked by the indirect cooking method without using the rotisserie."

Chris

Brad if you have a weber rotisserie motor, the maximum weight is 20lbs. You can figure the rod with the forks weighs about 2lbs. So you have about 18lbs for your turkey. You can google this and you will find different posts verifying this.

many have done 20 + lb turkeys with no issues. but i would stick with ones less than 20 lbs.
i usually stick with 12-13 lb turkeys. thay are younger and taste better.

In this post, the author says he contacted Weber and they said a max of 20 pounds. Still, you'd think it would be documented in the owners manual, but it's not.

I suspect it's not as much about weight as it is balance and physical size of the object being cooked. Just guessing, though.

Chris

I once tried to spin a 25-lb suckling pig that I had taken considerable time and effort to truss and mount in as balanced a manner as possible. No dice. The roti motor groaned noticeably from the instant I turned it on, which suggested to me that the weight was excessive regardless of the balance issue.

So, I had to take the pig off the spit and cook it w/o the rotisserie. It came out delicious, just the same!

Thanks for all the replies; looks like I'll be OK with the turkey I use.

Kevin, maybe you should've replaced the Weber rotisserie motor with something from Briggs & Stratton...
