Hey guys have a question. I'm doing a overnite smoke. 2 pork butts. And I'm getting ready to go to bed it's running alittle hot and I have all the vents shut in the bottom Except the top vent. So what is the best way to try and lower the temp? Shut the top vent?
 
Likely a bit late now, but closing up the bottom completely while cooking is not a good idea unless your WSM is shiny new and hasn't built up the gunk that seals it.
 
I usually manage (close) the top vent but NEVER completely (obviously) and NEVER too much. But I noticed that the 22 WSM is immediately influenced by SMALL movements in the upper vent, much more than in the lower vents
 
I agree with Enrico. You can adjust the top vent. A small adjustment can make a lot of difference. I wouldn't close it more than halfway.
