2008 Genesis E-310 Grease Drip Tray Heat Shield Question

I was cleaning my 2008 Genesis and realized the heat shield beneath the grease drip tray (which is positioned over the propane tank) was not attached to the drip tray. I’ve cleaned the grill yearly and don’t recall the drip tray consisting of two, separate, unattached pieces. There are matching holes in the drip tray and heat shield which align perfectly, which leads me to believe they should be attached to one another.is the heat shield supposed to be attached to the (underside) of the drip tray? If so, how? Small nuts and bolts or is there a specific fastener for this? I did not find any loose clips, pins or bolts in the cabinet during cleaning.

They were riveted together originally on that model but there’s no reason you couldn’t use the nut and bolt approach to put it back together. I’d recommend stainless fasteners but that’s just one man’s opinion.

Either riveted or spot welded. The welds on those tend to fail pretty quick and yes, a small nut and bolt in the matching holes will work. I am not sure what the specific size is but something about 1/2" long is all you need.

Thanks for your replies. I’ll procure some small nuts and bolts. Do you think I should apply some Loctite to the bolt threads?

I don't think you really need to. But you could.

Just finished reattaching the heat shield to the drip tray with some small nuts and bolts I procured through our little Mom & Pop hardware store and everything is nice and tight, now. I decided to not use Loctite at this time due to it potentially not being heat resistant (enough?) but will see as this grilling season progresses whether the nuts and bolts by themselves are sufficient.

Another issue remedied through the help of TVWBB members.
