2 Layers of Flavorizer bars?

Digging through the forums I've come across a couple of pictures / diagrams that look like certain models had 2 perpendicular layers of flavorizer bars. How would I know if mine is supposed to have 2 sets? I got it used about a decade ago, assume everything that came with it was included (have replaced parts since), but I'm just curious.

What would be the benefit of having 2 perpendicular layers? Right now I just have the long ones that run lengthwise (side to side) over the side mount burners.

The earlier Genesis 1000 had 2 rows of bars. The advantage is more heat retention, more even cooking and less flareups. It had more room for a rotisserie. The advantage of 1 row is that it preheats faster and it's cheaper.
