18 red weber kettle info

i just picked up a 18 red kettle. Older model, three vents on the bottom. Side handles are metal, lid handle os wood. Info on lid vent is. Pat # 3538906 letter B. What years. I will post pictures tomorrow. Needs cleaning but overall very good condition

Paid $15. Picked up hinged grates and charcoal grate today. However ash catch Pan is on back order. Will spend some time this weekend cleaning her up

Make sure you keep those rough spots oiled up to keep the rust from making more damage.

Was wondering how to handle the rust spots. Would lightly sanding and spaying those spots with high heat red gloss be a bad thing.

That's what I'd do. Knock off the loose rust and use high heat Rustoleum.

There's a little bit of a learning curve but it's not bad. And the individual vents allow for more customization of airflow and heat.
