interesting conversation here. I have two performers which I used almost exclusively out of my nine grills and smokers. Then I picked up a jumbo joe and that has been my go to grill for the two of us as it's easy to use and very frugal with fuel. Although if there is more than one side to be grilled or it's large or if its going to take a long time to cook the performer gets the call. The smaller JJ is great for quick grilling, but not long haul cooks without a lot of interaction.
But as stated above, yes the performer uses more fuel but when your done and have a lot of coals left shut it down and reuse the leftover coals later. I reuse the performers coals in the JJ, works out great.
If you're going to just have one grill I would go with the 22.5, better to have to much room than not enough.
