OK, here comes a "newbie" question even though I've been doing this for over a year.

Can I reduce my smoking time by cutting a large butt in half and smoking both halves at the same time? Or is ten pounds of butt ten pounds of butt, no matter how you slice it (literally)?
 
Ron,

You'll get more "bark" by the increased surface area, and decrease your cook times due to the reduced mass of the smaller pieces. 2 5 lb pieces of particular type of meat will reach pull temps before a single 10 lb piece of the same.
 
Yes, you will reduce your time in half as in cooking one 5#. Just like you don't double, triple or quadrupole the cooking time if doing same sized butts.
Bone in I prefer to cook a whole butt.
