$1.30/lb brisket success

I was at Walmart last week and browsing the meat section, looking for a steak for the grill when I saw a managers special brisket for $1.30/lb. It made me a little uneasy b/c i was unsure what would prompt a single brisket to be on sale when all the others were the regular $1.99/lb. Anyway, after inspecting it, I purchased it and put it on the wsm using the HH method. After floundering around last time with too much meat and not enough airflow, this one worked out great. Temps ran steady and the meat was fantastic. What a terrific recipe.

David, they mark them down when they get close to the expiration date on the label. I always try to pick them up when I see them. They will mark them down for you if they are within a few days of the date. I understand they toss them when they are removed from the display case and sell them to pet food manufacturers

I was at HEB today and saw briskets for $.97/lb. USDA Choice. All sizes from 7-15lb and they didn't go out of date till 6/9. Limit was 1 per person with a $20 purchase.

I guess they're pulling out the deals for memorial day. I got myself a nice little 9lb one since it's just me and the wife.
