Need a Q300 Regulator, but for cheap!

Hi all, I just got a weber Q 300 on craigslist and it needs a new regulator. I called Weber and looked online but they only sell the regulator with the manifold, for 45 bucks or more. Does anyone know if I can get a regulator for a Spirit/Genesis and have it thread on to my Q manifold? it'll need to be a 30", which I have found for 25 bucks, my only worry is that the threaded fitting will be different. Hopefully someone has an answer! Thank you

Go to a hardware store and look at fittings. Beside if you bought the grill so cheap $45 is not a bad thing to pay. My humble opinion? Suck it up buttercup :)

Isn’t there a accessory hose that comes with a regulator on it already?? I thought that I have seen them in the barbecue section at HD.... Good Luck, I love my 300 series Q’s.

I Have not seen a Q3xxx in the flesh so I don't know. But, I thought the larger series used a conventional regulator and hose like any other grill since the Q3xx was never meant to be portable and run off small cylinders. Maybe OP you can post a photo of what your regulator setup looks like

Larry, you are right. That does look like a standard regulator with hose. Not like on the Q2xxx and Q1xxx series. I do know the Q300 was never intended to run off of a disposable bottle. I had one last summer and refurbed and flipped it, but couldn't remember the exact configuration of the propane regulator and hose.

It looks from your picture that he could just replace the factory hose/regulator with a generic one. Like the one I linked to above from Home Depot for less than $9.

It might need some kind of adapter to get it to fit the manifold, but the cost would still be under $15.

Hi all, sorry i was MIA on this post for a few days! Yes i am extremely cheap, which i just call being efficient. If i dont need the manifold, i feels incredibly wasteful to pay for one and just have it laying around. Im more than happy to take the time to do it in the most efficient way possible. But, i guess as i write this, i must ask if i am really being efficient if you factor all the time spent? i'll figure that out on my own....

I have great news though, i went to a hardware store, and confirmed that the fittings were the same. They didnt have a 30 incher there though, so i ended up getting one on Amazon for 20 bucks. So, for all those out there with a Q300 (200 i think is the same), if your regulator goes out, you can buy Weber Part #7627, 30" regulator w/hose and itll work. The only other minor thing is you need to do is take the zip tie off the old hose and install on the new one; it secures the hose to the cart using one of the bolts in the cart. A generic hose would work too, doesnt have to be Weber, if you can find a 30".

it would be sweet if the regulator could be disconnected from the hose on weber grills. would save so much money for everyone. Cant complain too much though, i love Weber. They're one of the best companies in existence.

Here is a great price on the hose and regulator.

Then just follow this youtube video.

Hopefully you have a Homedepot in your area. You can have it shipped to store and not have to pay shipping charges.

That regulator would work, it;'s just too short. My Q300 needs a 30" i did see that one when i checked Home Depot.

I believe the Q200 has the connection for a 1lb disposable bottle just like the Q1xxx series. If you want to connect it to a 20lb tank, you just need an adapter hose which is available in most stores selling grills. Usually about $15 on the lower end and about $25 for a Weber brand. They can likely be had online for less though.

Yep thanks for that clarification. So now i have a Q300, 1997 Performer redhead, and a 1989 Genesis 3 burner! Near perfect lineup if you ask me.... now only if i could find that redhead WSM that doesnt exist... id be set HAHA.

Paint the Q300 Red too.

This a Q220 I repainted this past summer.

George, that grill was a rehab and flip. I have not heard anything back from the guy that bought it. I did a burn in on high for 30 minutes and it didn't change the finish in the least that I could see. The grill was over 500 degrees for most of the burn in.

The colored paint is actually flat, but by putting the Clear Coat on top of it, it turns the finish to GLOSS as you can see in the photo.

Great thread, guys... I picked up a free Q200 earlier this summer and even bought the 4-foot hose that allowed me to connect it to a 20 lb propane tank, but it would not heat up past 475 degrees (I added a thermometer to the lid like some of you had done)

I wasn't going to spend the $ for the replacement Q regulator, but this mod works for me. I'm going to try this too.

For those that have Amazon Prime:

3/8" Flare x 1/8" Female Pipe fitting: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B006PKK3XI/tvwb-20

5-ft regulator: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B07433QCTC/tvwb-20

JKim, that should work well. Let us know when you get it all done.

A couple thoughts. First, I dont know how reliable those lid thermometers really are, especially if it is a custom install. Even if the thermometer is accurate, the difference between temps at that spot up near the top of the lid may be a lot different than what it is at meat level.

Second, if you haven't taken the burner out lately, cleaned it up and made sure it is good shape and all the holes are unplugged as well as all the crud inside it removed, then you might find cleaning it will make a big difference. I know my Q100 needs some attention, but with highs just at zero degrees, it isn't going to get any attention any time soon.

Believe me, Bruce. Roughly 50% of the burner holes were plugged up when I first got it and it took me quite a while to clear the blockages. It's come a long way but I think the regulator is definitely holding it back from its true potential.

I have a PERFECTLY functioning Q220 with factory thermometer and 475 to 500 is the tops I see with it. DOn't cut your nose off to spite your face on that regulator you'll be very disappointed. A number of years ago when she was in college I bought oldest daughter a Q220 also. On hers the regulator really did go bad (it was one of the batch of early ones with faulty regulators). I did that mod to hers since it was already on the "stationary" cart (Q3XX) and she didn't mind losing portability. That grill too does not show temps on the hood thermo more than 475-500 either
Understand if you do the mod you'll be tied to a large bottle forever. The 200/220 do not have really high BTU per SQ IN like the 3xx or the 1xxx so they don't show quite as hot. Your grill is working fine and believe me once you actually cook steaks, chops, burners on it you'll see those temp readings are VERY misleading anyway. They sear perfectly fine and will over cook your steak faster than you can say "oh s^&t". DO yourself a favor. Leave it alone.

LMichaels, you're treating it like this is an irreversible mod, there's nothing that prevents me from re-using the old regulator if there's no performance improvement afterwards. The last time I tested for temperature, it took 25 minutes to reach 475. That's just too long for me to wait for it come up to temperature.

There are some previous threads that suggest that the Q200 is capable of higher:

https://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?6569-Q200-max-temp
https://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?3035-Q200-with-220-thermometer-installed

I will let everyone know the results when the parts come in.

That's what it takes mine also. I realize it's not irreversible. Simply indicating my experiences with Q200 and Q220 grills. Sorry you don't like the advice
