Mounting a PID directly on the side of the smoker.

I had the wind blow my Maverick thermometer off the small side table into some puddled up rain and it's probably broke now. I also have a PID. I'm thinking of getting a square foot of Dynamat (car audio sound deadner)(to insulate the heat), sticking it right on the side of the WSM then velcro the thermometer and PID to that. Seems like it would be stable and look nifty.
Anyone try anything like that?
Is it a bad idea?

I'd Velcro to the side table, not sure the dynamat would be good material for the insulating properties needed.
