    Performer Igniter Failure

Yes and Yes. Man up! Glad to see your on the road to recovery Davo. I wish they could have pinpointed the problem though, instead of throwing parts at it. I suppose it doesn't matter in the long run though....happy grilling .

    new 26.5 kettle

Welcome to the site. Nice photo. I agree the 22.5" is perfect for a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 kids) but I don't think that a human that can consume 20oz (!) of beef + sides is the norm. I don't think your going to fit 4+ corns and 4+ spuds with that kill even on a 26". I'd think the Ranch...

    Performer Igniter Failure

The do require annual maintenance. Whether you use them once or fifty times a year. I clean the electrodes and the wire connections on all our Performers with some emery cloth and they always fire on the first stab of the igniter.

    New WSMs for 2009

Bryan, Expanded metal cut w/ plasma cutter laid over the grate, same as all my other kettles. Doesn't everyone burn lump? I'll cut one for your 22 WSM when I cut one for mine .

    Old Performer question

You can attach a 20# tank to it but you'd need a longer hose. The hose has been mentioned here before. Search and you can find a part#. The tank will fit but you must remove the bin.

    Performer or not!

Pass on it. Wait for a deal on a Performer.

Lid hold down mod on OTG/OTS

Chris, Did you get the SJP yet? I've got a few tips that will make your lid hold down install easier if you'd like. Let me know.

Lid hold down mod on OTG/OTS

I wouldn't pay $79 for a SJP. Take your time and look around for one. A lot of the ACE hardware stores still have some on the shelves. I can get one for $49 at an ACE near me. Or you can wait for a deal on CL or Ebay. The parts you need from the SJP are the lid w/handle and hold down wire...

how do you start your charcoal/lump?

A MAPP torch is hotter than the blue propane bottle. See this chart for a comparison of the 4 most popular gases. I use a MAPP torch with the 2' hose to lite the lump in my SJOTG away from home. Like this photo. When at home I just use the igniter in a Performer to light a chimney of...

Lid hold down mod on OTG/OTS

Chris, Don't cut the legs. Just make new legs out of 1/2" pipe. You can order the parts from Weber for the lid latch but it would be cheaper to buy a SJP, if you can find one, and rob the parts from it. It's worth it. I get a ton of use out of this little baby and loads of questions and...

    Charcoal Use with 26" Kettle

Andrew, Try using lump. It seams to burn hotter. Dump a full lit chimney on top of a pile of unlit lump. Keep your intake vents open a little longer. Post a photo of that bad boy!
