I made the decision to buy a smokey joe silver cause that one is to nice to cook on.

Joe I bought the smokey joe that was for sale with your grill on ebay. It was a 1983 smokey joe new in the box.

I bought a smokey joe off ebay last week for 29.99 and it was brand new and in the box. It has a letter stamped on it "E" so that would mean 1983. I will post some pics later

I usually take the whole thing out to use my chimney starter and then i use the grate lifter to add coals. The chimney starter will not fit down into the pie shapes, that is the only drawback.

How hard are they to clean?

I used my new ci grates last night to cook burgers and they worked great. The grill marks looked perfect. Will use them tonight to cook a big new york strip!

Frank I think the cast iron grates are worth it cause they cook evenly and it makes the food look nice in the process (grill marks). So I would say aethetic and functional. I am very happy with my new grates.

I thought they worked great!! If you like cast iron they are worth it.

I got mine on tue. and they look great. I haven't used them yet.

I own a performer also, but the smokey joe seems like a fun grill. Plus i need to feed my addiction for more grills!

I live at 7500 ft so i wanted to make sure that the silver or gold get's good air to the charcoal.

Is this due to venting?

I have quit using my gas grill completely. It is the greatest investment i have ever made.

How was the cleanup? I have been looking at those also.

I could not pass up more toys for the grill!! It is my birthday present to myself.

How long do let leave it on for to get 10-12 lights? The big tank is a pain sometimes.
