Stainless Steel Performer needs a new cover

I have the old 22" Performer with the stainless steel table top. It has a gas ignitor with 5lbs propane tank and the table top is stainless steel, where the right side is hinged with a handle you lift upwards, to reveal the charcoal bin and propane knob. My favourite grill by far and I'll never...

Don't like the newer ash catcher design

I have an older 26er and the SS Performer. Both have an ash catcher where you lift up the handle slightly and rotate it. On the 26er the ash bowl slides in the grooves real easy and very easy to remove and put back the ash catcher bowl. On my SS Performer it's not quite a perfect fit so takes a...

26er not flat - how long should the front leg be?

Thanks for the tips and URL to the older thread. In my case, nothing is bent, not even the spot welded tabs under the bowl where the legs go. Axle is in place too. It does wobbly slightly left/right when shaken with the front handle - I figured it would with only 3 legs. My other grill is a...

26er not flat - how long should the front leg be?

I scored a 26" Weber kettle on CL for $250. When I went to pick it up, the original owner had it on their front lawn which was on an incline so I didn't pay attention to the grill not being level when on level ground. Now that I have it home on flat ground I see the grill is not level. The...

    Low'n Slow & VOCs

I've done a lot of grilling on my Performer for about 12 years. Haven't done much low'n slow cooking. The one or two butts I've tried have been in a rush and the family found it too smokey tasting. Someday I'd like try smoking a brisket. I also have a ceramic cooker that I haven't used much...

Cover for my old SS Performer?

I called Weber customer service. Told them what I needed and they sent me the appropriate cover. It was reasonably priced, around $30 or $35 if I remember. I've had the SS Performer for like 11 years. The older cover was a rather thick vinyl. I would still have it, if it weren't for it shrinking...

    Kettle rotisserie

Ah, the sleeve is round. Makes a lot of sense now. Now I need to find me one of those.

    Kettle rotisserie

That metal sleeve at the bottom of the photo looks to be square. The spit rod is also square, but at the handle end there's 1/4" section that is round. This is where the rod rests on the black outer wall for easy spinning. The wire must cross that round section making it not perfectly round...

    Kettle rotisserie

I'd like to know how the probes work on the rotisserie also. I'm thinking the wires and temperature reader is also mounted onto the spit rod somehow on the handle to let it spin together, so the wires don't coil up. But then what does the contact point on the handle end look like? You still...

How to make the charcoals very hot for searing?

Yes, sometimes, not always, I'll add a chunk or two of Apple wood. I use chunks, not chips. And I don't soak them. Some say you should soak them for an hour. I don't bother with the soaking as I usually don't remember it ahead of time.

How to make the charcoals very hot for searing?

Use Lump charcoal, it burns hotter than briquettes and less ash. I find that south american lump burns even hotter, but sparks a lot in the beginning. Gotta watch the kids around it. Fill up the chimney, get them all lit, then dump it to one side to have direct and indirect zones. I wait a bit...

    Craycort cast iron inserts

I have them also. Used them a few months then went back to the ordinary Weber hinged grate. I didn't really like that the grate direction wasn't uniform among the quarters. Who would design such a thing? You need to put your steak right on the quarter to get uniform grill marks on the entire...

HM with Odroid instead of Pi?

Anyone build a HM with an Odroid? I have an Odroid C1 I wouldn't mind using for an HM.

my first Weber - Performer Deluxe 2015

Johnny, yes that gap is normal. I've had a Performer with the gas assist for over 10 years and love it. Over time that tube gets gunged up with grease somewhat. Even the igniter gets gunged up and when that happens it eventually stops throwing spark. Could be a couple years before it happens...

What's a good way to raise the charcoal grate

What's a good way to raise the charcoal on a 22.5" performer so the charcoal is closer to the cooking grate? I don't know what diameter the charcoal grate is for the bigger 26" kettle. That might work well to get the charcoal right under the cooking grate of the 22.5" kettle.
