    Heatermeter 4.1.4

Hi Bryan! Hope you are doing well. I haven't visited the forums in a while. I have postponed my electronics and micro controller programming hobby until my two boys get a bit older. Luckily, part of my real job is developing ESRI Flex web mapping applications so I am keeping my programming...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

All that metal is unnecessary. You can simply connect the fan to the bowl using high temp silicone which you can get at any hardware store. I also suggest using the smallest round bowl you can find...got mine at Goodwill. I have had the temp up just about as hot as you could get it and I have...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

I too was thinking of making my own electric smoker after seeing these starters in the hardware store. My Dad first tried to use a hot water heater element after I told him I thought he should try the Brinkmann electric charcoal starter. The hot water heating element ended up melting and...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

My Dad and I modified my Mom's Bradley electric smoker for her birthday. The stock elements on these Bradley's are terrible (1) because they take forever to get the smoker hot (2) they burn out easily and cost $30 to replace (3) they run on a thermostat so the temperature varies +- 30 degrees...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

I sent Liz an e-mail with a link to the Linkmeter forum a couple weeks ago because I saw UberFridge on their blog and I thought everyone should know about Bryan's awesome PID project! I have learned so much from Bryan! Oh and by the way...this new forum software is not working for me. I have...

Okay I sent the board off to you to take a quick look. I took care to make sure none of the LCD "feet" touched any components. The 3-D model really helped with that. There is a potential issue with the hub and the LCD but I was thinking I would put tape on top of the USB hub (or felt).

Hi Bryan. The SMD board is almost ready for fabrication. I have done a lot of 3-D modeling which has allowed me to avoid a handful of potential clearance issues. One of which is the DC power jack. I decided last night that I will need modify DC power jack part in my eagle library to remove...

I have spent most of the day today playing with the board design. I did get it 100% routed. I still need to tweak some things and fix the silkscreen. I also need to figure out how I am going to support the board on the USB connector side of the Pi. I had originally planned to use the RCA...

Arggggh....I am so far behind because of this move. I like to redesign your designs because I learn more. Maybe one day I will come up with something on my own. I love love love my digital caliper. I have been using it since I started playing around with Sketchup. Step 2 would be a...

Road trip was a blast!!! I know you made a couple changes to the schematic since I started my design so I need to find that post and make those changes. I guess I can also reference the newest schematic. In any case I will probably harass you to look at my schematic. I haven't seen...

Hi Bryan! Looks like things are moving along nicely with the project. I am now in North Carolina. I was almost finished routing out my board when the motherboard on my laptop failed. I am going to have to wait until the movers come to get my desktop back so I can finish. The routing is...

Haha doesn't seem like a logical choice does it? I am from North Carolina. I have been on the west coast for about four years (2.5 years in Alaska and 1.5 years in Seattle). My wife and I are with child now so we are trying to get closer to my mom. The BBQ is the perk. I work as a civilian...

I go to San Francisco for work and come back to discover they changed the forum. Now I will try to digest what you and Evan MJ were talking about. I cannot believe how fast OpenWRT runs on the Pi...amazing! When I left for San Fran I was almost done with my SMD board design. I am moving to...

Why not use Eagles auto routing? It served me well. You were just excited. I am very eager to get my board built so I can understand your excitement.

Yes but really it is easy. I created some of the parts but you can find a lot of parts in the sketchup parts library. It is great because it is super easy to learn and you can see where you will run into issues. I checked the parts library yesterday and someone added a dimensionally accurate...
