    Yet Another New Stove

Today's delivery marks the third stove we've had in the four years we've lived here( come October 20 or so). The first was what was here when we bought the place...a basic Frigidaire stainless gas range. Shortly before I remodeled the kitchen, my wife picked out a Blomberg gas range in late...

    Store bought pizza crusts

While I applaud those that make their own dough for pizza, I've tried twice and I'm done with that. I'm even done with using the Trader Joes style dough in a bag. I've tried several store bought crusts and am learning some are far better than others. So far, I've found the following to be pretty...

Thermopop vs El cheapo Amazon junk

Learned a decent lesson today...finally. Was cooking split chicken breasts on the Broilmaster P3 on the deck at the beach house this evening. I first went out to check internal temperature with this El cheapo AlphaGrills thermometer I bought on Amazon 3 years ago. Initial reading was about 58-68...

    Chest Freezers-5 cf

We've had the same chest freezer for 15-20 years. It still runs fine but the gasket was shot so I replaced it with EPDM weather stripping which mostly worked with one small gap. I decided it's time for a new one so started to research a bit. What I found is that they're all essentially made in...

    Testing a smoker tube

I've been curious about smoker tubes...the kind you fill with pellets. So I bought one to try out...not as much for the Oakford pellet grill, but more for my Genesis II 325. Yes, I do have a smoker box for wood chips but for $8, worth a try. Everything I see on YouTube shows folks lighting it...

    Inkbird IBBQ-4T Got Wet

Was cooking chicken thighs and legs on the Oakford yesterday and was about 3 minutes from pulling off the grill hoping for that crispy skin you guys have been talking about. The sky literally opened up and it poured like I've not seen it before. I got the chicken in ok...so much for the crispy...

    Surprise Pork Butt cook

In a somewhat out of character move for my wife, she came home with a 8.7lb. pork butt from Wegmans yesterday afternoon after we returned from our beach house. She had some recipe for cooking it in the crock pot but we discussed cutting it in half with one half in the crock pot the other on the...

    Hopper hand guard grid

Am I the only one that has removed this useless piece of metal from the pellet hopper? I put it in the same category as safety lock caps on laundry detergent pod containers and warning tags on extension cords.

    Pool Pump longevity

Had the pool pump at the beach house replaced 8 years ago. It's a Hayward Superpump 1hp. We had an unusually high amount of pollen this Spring along with a bit of new home construction nearby but I know the pool service cleaned the DE(diatomaceous earth) filter screens when the pool service...

    Traeger at Costco

Took a quick look at this Traeger which they were displaying close to the entrance at Costco today. Very unimpressive. The lid was light and flimsy. Grates were similar to what's on my Nexgrill Oakford... Overpriced at $650. Ridiculous at $750. First time I've seen a pellet grill in Costco though.

Blomberg/Becko gas range no burner spark

We've had this Blomberg bgrp34520ss gas range for a bit over 3 years. It's been a good stove thus far. Someone in the house brushed up against the burner knob unknowingly lighting the burner which had a Calphalon nonstick 5qt saute pan on it. It burned for 2-3 days as we were at our beach house...

    Manhattan Clam Chowder

I know many rail on Manhattan Chowder vs New England Chowder...but I love the former. I always buy a quart or three when we go the the huge seafood store at The Lobster House in Cape May. But now it's almost $10/quart so I decided to try my hand at making my own. So far, I've used this recipe...

Everybody wants to get in on the grilling game

Saw these two at IKEA today. Poorly constructed and fairly expensive.

    Sorry

At the risk of pissing off a bunch of folks here, I'm going to call this Weber pellet grill fiasco for what it is...thus far, an unmitigated disaster from the premier name in outdoor cooking. Of course their customer service is responsive sending parts and covering up what they hope to...

    Considering a superautomatic

I've found these superautomatic espresso/coffee machines fascinating ever since I frequented our group's HQ in Erbenheim, Germany when I was working. Espresso, double shots, cappuccino if desired...all with the press of a button. That one in our office was a commercial machine with a direct...

Sudden loss of network connection newer phone

I have been using a Google Pixel 7a since October with Google Fi and all worked flawlessly until yesterday afternoon. While driving home, it suddenly dropped data connection and got a No SIM Card detected notification. I restarted the phone...same thing. Went through the troubleshooting steps...

    Recommendations for rust proofing casters

After less than two years on our beach house deck, these Amazom sourced casters have rusted into useless chunks of metal with PVC wheels. The ball bearing swivels survived fine but the ball bearing wheel axels completely rusted. I found ones at Harbor Freight that use a pin/shaft axel that I...

    Breakfast on the Genesis II

Since it was a balmy 35 degrees and sunny this AM, I thought I'd try breakfast on the Genesis II. We don't have bacon very often but had a bit left over from a dinner my wife made the other night. Now I know why I don't cook breakfast outside... almost never. Because it's such a royal PIA. No...
