Question About Smoking Ribs, and Chicken, also question about thermometer on WSM 18.5

Welcome. Man that WSM looks shiney and new. Awesome. I am not sure I have much to add except I wanted to welcome you to the board.

    It finally happened

wow that is awesome. I will admit because of the success stories I have seen on here I have been peaking on craigs list every day or two as well, but I have yet to see any great deals. I own a 22.5 WSM and have ZERO need for a 18.5, but had I seen this price I still most likely would of gone...

Who all is ready for some baseball?

No he is still a Reds for now. The scuttle is around the fact this is his last year of his contract and as of now they have not agreed or settled on an extention. If he is not resigned by year's end he becomes a Free Agent. so I guess the threory is either the Reds need to resign him (if they...

Who all is ready for some baseball?

Cincinnati Reds fan here, can't wait for the season to start. LOVE LOVE LOVE baseball. Unfortunately I am not very confident in the Reds this year. Pitching is not all that steller and I am not sure their bats are as good as they were a few years ago. Best of luck to everyone and their...

    pork butts over brisket

I have done about 7-8 different cooking sessions of butts (varying in total number from 1-3 each time) but never a brisket so I am not as familiar with the time needed for brisket. But my thought is if a brisket does not take as long then it seems like I would prefer that to be on the top to...

    First Go at Smoking

I agree with Timothy, pics are not needed. I think you will get plenty of help on here. I just was letting you know I couldn;t see the pics in case it was something simple on your side to fix. if it isn't I doubt it is worth a lot of extra effort.

    22 inch calling to me

I just got the 22.5 about 3-4 months ago. I do not have the 18.5 so hard to compare the 2. I would say I think if I had the 18.5 it would more than meet my needs 95% of the time. Only reason I got the 22.5 is at the time Amazon had a $50.00 coupon for all grills over $300 and this was...

    Strong Smoke Flavor

I have not done too many things, but so far I have found in the 2-3 times I have done chicken it required a lot less wood then I thought it would. next time I am sticking close to Dwain and using 1 or maybe 2 small apple chunks and that is it

Bone In Pork butts ideal internal temp

That is a hard one to answer since there are a number of factors - how large are the butts, what average temp are you able to keep the smoker at etc. having said all that, I would say I think 8 hours is not even close to enough time (given my experience that is. which is smoking pork butts for...

Bone In Pork butts ideal internal temp

I think your friend is thinking about the temp they are fully cooked, and at 165-170 that is the temp pork is considered cooked. If you were doing a couple of pork chops on the grill or tenderloin in teh oven for exmple that should be fine. But as I understand it, with pork butts etc you want...

Getting ready to hit the order button 18.5 or 22"

Like I said above I spent way too much time thinking about this. to the point I cut out a 18.5" and 22" circle of cardboard, brought it to the grocery store and laid various cuts of meat on it. Yes that was the day my wife decided I had officially lost it. I personally figured if I had this...

HELP!! FRUSTRATED!! SMOKEY MOUNTAIN 18 and Heat Shield

Please don't sue me if this doesn't work and you burn your house down or something, but does anyone know if the heat shield really NEEDED if you are that excited to use the new WSM today? You could always try to get new legs (Weber will send you new ones for free I am sure...) and install...

    Butt Capacity of the 18.5"

where is this campout? I may have to stop by for 'quaility control' ha ha
  20. K

    Butt Capacity of the 18.5"

Oh ya got it. With numbers that large I completely agree with you. You get more per sq. inch of cooker space with the pork. I thought you were feeding more like ~ 20 or so.
