Rotisserie...for the grill, or for the smoker?

Hi Folks, I've been considering a rotisserie. I have an 18" WSM, and a 22" Kettle...which makes more sense for the rotisserie? (also a jumbo joe, but I can't imagine hauling the rotisserie around, so portability isn't a concern....unless it should be?) Thanks ahead for your thoughts!

    New Kettle Owner

Thanks, guys! Much appreciate the sage advice! So it sounds like, when it arrives tomorrow, I'll just enjoy it 'stock' until such a time if/when I see an actual need for a mod. :) How about seasoning? Needed, not needed before cooking? Make the first cook something 'easy?" Season while...

    Weber Obsession?

I've been using the Weber starters, but in a previous life I was a backpacker/trekker, and I made some pretty effective fire starters by soaking cotton makeup pads in parrafin. 1/8 of one of those would start my evening campfire, so should work here too. I'm just old and lazy now. :)

    New Kettle Owner

Hi Folks, I'm Andy, I'm 52, and I've never owned a Weber Kettle...until, technically, today, although it's not in my grubby little hands just yet. I've used el-cheapo charcoal grills in my youth. When I had kids, I moved to a gas grill, and while I still have one on the deck, now that my...

Replacement Lid, Middle Cooking Section, Firebowl?

Thanks folks! Sorry if I didn't express myself well. I haven't actually tried any of these mods yet. This was sort of a pre-emptive "If I try and I screw up?...how much will it cost me?" ...I wanted to make sure a mistake wouldn't mean having to replace my whole WSM. ...but it sounds like...

Replacement Lid, Middle Cooking Section, Firebowl?

I've had my WSM for about 6 months now, and am starting to think about some mods like the lid hinge, getting a BBQ Guru and cutting a dedicated hole for the adapter so I can still use my vents without it if I want, etc. ...but I'm worried about what happens if I booger it up. I know Weber...

Multiple Stalls for one Pork Butt?

I'm smoking a butt <insert joke here>,...it's only my third, and things are going along nicely, but I've notice something on this one I haven't noticed before on the other two. Did I just miss it, or is this odd? It is (was, anyway, before I trimmed it) a 7 lb Boston Butt. I started it at...

Porcelain on 3 month old WSM chipping off?

Thanks guys! As it was New Year's day, I dropped them an email instead. I'd heard a lot of great things about Weber customer support over the years, but this is my first time experiencing it in person. The replacement part is in the mail due to be delivered the day after tomorrow. No...

Porcelain on 3 month old WSM chipping off?

Thanks guys! It's been a great little pit for the 10 or so cooks I've used it on, but I want to stay that way for a long time! Much appreciated!

Porcelain on 3 month old WSM chipping off?

Today I noticed chipped porcelain on both bottom corners of the access door hole on my WSM. Is this normal wear and tear, or do I need to call Weber for this? The steel is exposed on both sides. I've used it to add charcoal / water on perhaps 2 cooks, but normally I don't even open the thing...

    First overnight cook question

Thanks Mike! It's a 5 lb pork butt. My current themometer only alarms on high, but I did ask Santa for one like that, so maybe tomorrow? :)

    First overnight cook question

I did my did first overnight cook last night. All was good at 5, but when I got up at 8, both pit and meat temps were in low 150s. Firing more charcoal now, but making sure meat is still safe. Hoping so since it didn't go under 140, but want to check with the experts. :) Thanks!!! Update...

How do I know when I need to add water to an 18" WSM? Thanks ahead!

    Practice on a chicken?

From your mouth (errr...fingers?) to God's ear, Tim! The other thing I'm nervous on...probably unnecessarily, but...is that the recipe calls for a much smaller turkey than the Mrs. bought. I did already check that it fits the smoker...no issues there. Clearly it will take longer....any other...

    Practice on a chicken?

This year I'll be smoking my first turkey. I'll be using an 18" Smokey Mountain cooker, and plan to use the recipe here: http://virtualweberbullet.com/turkey4.html I saw the tip about cooking a practice turkey the other day, and it seems like wisdom except...my family doesn't really like...

    New smoker in Georgia

D'oh! I got here via the Virtual Weber Bullet BB, and didn't notice this forum covered other types at first. It was an 18.5" WSM. :) I took it on its maiden voyage yesterday, and did a couple of racks of baby backs. The family and friends seemed pretty happy, and I'd be lying if I said i...
