Do I NEED a Remote Thermometer?

A remote thermometer is a luxury. As long as you have tested your oem therm and know it's accurate, you should be fine. When its needle is in that gray band that signifies "smoke," you're doing good. I don't know how or why it happened once, but after I foiled some ribs and returned to the WSM...

    Some Observations

Yep, windy cooks do eat up the charcoal. But the finished product is worth it in my book.

    Light

A headlight for me too. The light shines where I am looking, which usually is good – unless my wife asks me a question and I look at her and shine the light in her eyes.

    Benefits of stainless steel hardware?

Neil, Thanks, I think I will wait. Here are pics of the lid hanger mod. I found the idea in my research about mini WSM builds.

    Benefits of stainless steel hardware?

Most of my mini WSM build uses stainless nuts and bolts, but my later addition – U-bolts as lid hangers – aren't because I couldn't find them in stainless at the time. Now I have found stainless U-bolts. Is there any advantage to replacing what I have with the stainless ones? Thanks.

rode hard, put up wet (water in wsm after rain)

I cover my 18.5 with a plastic 55-gallon garbage bag first, then put on the Weber cover, which does leak at the seams. It's worked so far.

    Spitmate anyone?

http://auspitbbq.com/accessories.html#spitmate Just wondering if anyone is familiar with or has used a Spitmate? I'd love a rotisserie basket that would allow me to do nuts and coffee beans in addition to wings, scallops and other treats. I'm trying to decide if they are versatile enough to be...

Post a picture of yourself! *****

Me and my toys. The WSM is going with some baby backs, the others are just unwrapped. And here's the fishing picture: An eating-sized walleye caught on the Missouri River near Bismarck, ND, a few years ago.

    Cajun Bandit Rotisserie Review

I bought my CB maybe nine months ago, used it probably a dozen times and I am still on my first set of batteries. It's a workhorse and worth every penny.

    raycort Cast Iron Grates??????

@ Joel -- I use a Weber chimney and it's too big to fit inside. I just remove one of the wedges and then take out the frame and other three wedges in one piece.

    Steamer Pot Alternatives

Target sells IMUSA pots online. You might check your local Target. Otherwise, you might try your small, Hispanic markets. As a last resort, order from Amazon and return it if it's the wrong size.
