I just bought my 2014 WSM 18.5 on 5/23, it included the cover. On one side of the box, you should see a pic of the included cover. Did you buy one that was already assembled?

Not sure how to describe the smell, it wasn't overpowering but enough to notice. No matter, I fired up the smoker with only charcoal and a little hickory which took care of the odd smell.

I'm leaving my vents closed when not in use if for no other reason than making sure any curious little critters stay out.
