WSM 18.5" only option in Oz, is it big enough?

Hi Gavin, I think Tony is probably right with advising an 18.5. These are the ones that have been on sale in Oz for a while, so you can find them second hand as well. I found mine, near new, for $300AUD; but I had to drive 160km each way to get it, and it took me 12months to find it. But I find...

WSM 18.5" only option in Oz, is it big enough?

Because the 22.5s have only been sold here recently, not that many second hand ones turn up. Some do, but usually from BBQers who have imported them- so still quite pricey, i.e $500.00+ Tony, 'import duty' here, for want of a better name, is only 10% of declared value. So it is the local Weber...

WSM 18.5" only option in Oz, is it big enough?

Hi Gavin, the 22.5 " (57cm) WSM actually has been for sale in oz for the last 12 months or so, only $999.00AUD RRP. The 18.5" is $749.00 and the 14.5" is $399.00. All on the Weber Australia web site. Private import from the USA is probably cheaper.

    What is this Genesis?

It's a 5000. The stripes are original. The button next to the ignition is a 'Flame Check' that you press and hold down till the gas is lit. If there is no flame, it cuts the gas off when you release it. They are a bit of a pain as it means that the front burner has to be on all the time, and...

    Could Not Resist

The valves, (and jet orifices) are different between the LP and NG 1000-5500 Genesis series. Easiest way is to find a NG manifold (with valves attached) and do a straight swap.

what is best time to wrap pork butts

Thanks Tony, I got the mini ready for a 4am start to be safe. Thanks Erik- to be safe with this cook I will probably wrap. Thanks Bob- do you use a ATC on your smoker, or just trust it to stay steady? With 4+ hours in the cooler do you have to reheat before or after you shred? Hi Rich- I...

what is best time to wrap pork butts

Hi Tony, it is actually Fathers Day here tomorrow and I am trying to work out if for a 3pm lunch for pulled pork what start time I need to get up and start the cook. Wife has offered to keep the bed warm for me.Thanks. I like to cook at 225 F so I figure 8hrs mininum, 1hr to rest in the esky...

Yard Sale find, didn't need, but couldn't pass up

Top score with your Summit Platinum C4. The Platinums are the ones to go for as they have a full SS frame, SS sides and bottom shelf, partial SS covers on the plastic side table, and the SS rod grates. I would argue that they are much better constructed than the current Summits. I found the...

New for 2017: Weber Genesis II Gas Grills

Hi LM, Weber products here have always been expensive luxury items.A new S-670 costs over $4000USD. Weber gassers have never been at a $500 price point here. In the UK and Europe they are also expensive luxury items, and are priced and marketed as such. Perhaps Weber USA have decided to go down...

    Are you Kidding ME ???

I agree with LMichaels, don't be too concerned with the really tough carbon on the inside of the fireboxes. With use, it comes back anyway. I use a 1" paint scraper to get as much of the grease/fat/carbon as will come off first. Then I use boiling water to get the grease out of the hard to get at...

New for 2017: Weber Genesis II Gas Grills

Hi LM, if the new Genesis models have a full cast AL fire box, particularly the 6 burner, that has to be a good thing, does it not? If they are to retain a Summit line then the Summits can have the Roti burner, the Smoker burner and the Sear burner, (and looking at the the new Genesis photos)...

Lighting the rotisserie burner on the Summit S-470

With the Summit Silver/Gold/Platinums I can turn the Roti on before or after the main burners are on. The roti burner does have (unlike the main burners) a thermocouple that should stop the gas flow if there is no flame. Holding the knob in bypasses the thermocouple, lets the gas flow so you...

    Sunday Smoke. Leg of Lamb.

Inspirational cook Tony. I wonder with the lamb if tin foiling it when it hits the stall would help retain some moisture and get the cook time down. (The lamb not having as much collagen/fat to break down as a pork butt or beef brisket???)

Weber Summit Platinum CL Houston $100

I very much agree. If you want a Summit then a Platinum is the way to go, as it should also have the SS grill grates. Do not pass Go, PAY the $100. Great value.

    Costco Lamb

Great looking cook Chuck. Just curious as to your reasons for not recommending freezing Lamb? (other than there obviously would, or should, be no leftovers.....) Approx. time on the Roti?
