    New WSM Owner

Good idea. I've done 3 (or so) dozen cooks with my 18.5. 'Some' smoke still escapes from the door and lid. However, I have no trouble maintaining 250-275* for long periods of time.......so I'm not worried about it. Personally, I wouldn't even bother with the bacon. Cook up a couple dozen wings...

    A little disapointed in Weber

So I briefly skimmed over this thread, and I have to admit that I too dislike the lack of clearance between the coals and water pan. So I have a question: If I'm ONLY using the top rack of the smoker (as I often am)........is there any reason I couldn't just flip the water pan upside down, thus...

    Propane tank Refill or Exchange?

My local Tractor supply store does refills. I usually bring in both my tanks......I don't remember what the price per gallon is.....but I've never paid more than ~$20 total for both tanks. Good info about the bleed screw. I'll have remember that.

    Asian style pulled pork

As much as I love traditional East Carolina 'Q', I sometimes want to try something new. I stumbled across this recipe for an Asian style pork shoulder. IT WAS AWESOME!! I followed the recipe with the exception that I did not use the oven (of course). I used cherry on this cook since I didn't...

    Best time/place to buy charcoal?

Lowes currently has two/20lb bags of Kingsford blue for $19.99. Not bad, but I feel like I've seen it much cheaper before. Does Kingsford tend to go on sale at some point in the year? Where? If so, I might buy a trunk full. At full retail, one smoke can burn through $10+ worth of charcoal...

    Test Run?

I did a test run last weekend. I figured an 11lb bird at .89lb was a cheap experiment. It was a REALLY windy day and I had trouble getting the smoker over 280-290. As a result, the skin came out rubbery. However, the meat was fantastic. If nothing else, I know the wood/butter/spice combo I used...

Which one of you wiseguys is selling this "like new" grill?

This line was my favorite: "Year round grilling great deal will not last"

Which one of you wiseguys is selling this "like new" grill?

LOL!!!! They should administer IQ tests before letting people sell on craigslist. $150-175 "firm"?? "Like new". http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/tls/4690742784.html

Kingsford Charcoal Kaddy users -- put the bag in, or just the charcoal?

LOL. I bought mine used from a garage sale. I never even considered cutting the top of the bag and putting it into the kaddy.......but yeah.......thats clearly the better way to go. How did I manage to screw up something that should have been so obvious. LOL.

    Spirit E310 v Geneis E310

I grill 2-3 times per week (year-round). I viewed my grill purchase under the same lens as a major appliance. No way would I buy a cheap range/oven. That said, I elected to go big and buy the genesis. Of course, I found a used/mint Genesis E-310 for $65 which made the decision a lot easier. If...

Hot and Fast Chicken on the WSM

I tried the hot n' fast method last week. While the skin was rubbery, it wasn't crispy either. I plan to give it another whirl soon. I love "BBQ'd" chicken. But I haven't become very good at cooking it myself yet.

    Scored a Genesis

I didn't know that. Thanks. I actually keep mine on my elevated deck AND on a mat. But very good information for future reference.

    Pulled Pork Crust

CSRs. Never considered that, but I could use this on nachos. Do you prep and cook the CSRs the same way you'd cook a butt? I assume for a much shorter period of time?

Ever replaced a gas crossover tube?

Good advice. I think the previous owner went overboard when torquing the screws which is why I couldn't pull the burner tubes out through the manifold holes. Thus I had to go to the trouble of breaking the screws free. At that point, it made more sense to just remove the screws, install the...

Ever replaced a gas crossover tube?

Your right. A week earlier I had removed the manifold and attempted to remove the tubes in order to clean them. The screws were either over-torqued or corrosion had 'welded' them to the burner tubes. This is actually the point where I discovered the rusted-out crossover tube. In either case...

    Gas Off @ Tank

The tank should be turned off.......but admittedly, I rarely do it.

Ever replaced a gas crossover tube?

Hmmm. There are clearly three screws that hold the burner tubes in-place on the left side of the grill. No doubt there. I modified one of the screws (that was seized), so that I could break it free. I installed the new crossover tube, and put everything back together. Then I cooked 7 burgers for...

Best gas grill for the Elderly?

I think LP tank changes should be the biggest consideration. Whichever grill made that the easiest, would be the grill I'd choose......even if it weren't a Weber. If mobility is an important element in the decision, the Genesis should definitely be disqualified. I'd be looking at the Spirit vs...

Ever replaced a gas crossover tube?

Thanks for all the replies. I recieved the new tube today and immediately began installation. I ran into some trouble as the screw that holds down the center burner was seized and the outside of the screwhead and screwdriver slot stripped out. I used a dremel with a cutting wheel to enlarge the...
