    Walnut Wood for Grilling?

I've played around with black walnut a little bit and to be perfectly honest, trying to balance it with milder woods can be a hassle. A too-cautious approach and the walnut flavor disappears; go aggressive and it easily overpowers the other woods.

    You know you need this!

Not a bad concept, but I see surfaces that would make it squirrel-friendly. Location would be important.

    The Humor Thread

This morning, I accidentally changed the GPS Voice to 'Male'. Now it just says, "You're right on target and there's also a really good wing joint a couple of blocks down." FTFY. ;)

    Tenderizer warning for home grinders

When I make hamburgers I grind my own beef. I cube the beef a day or so ahead of time, salt and season it, and leave it in the fridge to dry-brine before grinding. Recently, I did this with a store-bought seasoning, or to be more specific, a seasoning and tenderizer. When I ground the beef it...

What do you think of this.....

To put it mildly, I disagree with Mr. Christopher J. Teuton, whomever he may be. But just to play devil's advocate...what if the article had been written by a well-respected chef? Or Alton Brown? Or someone who has a huge Youtube following? Would our reactions be the same?

Have someone do the grilling for you so that you can spend more time yelling at those kids on your lawn.;)

    Stuffed pork chops

While I'm still grilling and smoking I've really fallen off with photos, but I did document some pork chops a few months ago. I started with some really nice rib chops that I seasoned with S&P. Then I split them, seasoned the inside, and added some Koops' yellow mustard. Then I stuffed them...

That's actually a pretty good way to get out of a 1970s Camaro or Firebird, although the hand is placed on the rocker panel/door sill instead of the ground. If it's done right you spin out of the car and land on your feet with enough momentum to break into a brisk walk.

Hard work is its own reward!

Just a standard economy faucet. We're probably going to be replacing the sink itself in a couple of years so this faucet just has to get us by until then. I like the idea of a hands-free faucet, but I don't know if I'd go electronic or foot-operated mechanical. The hardest part of the removal...

Hard work is its own reward!

The heck it is...after replacing the kitchen sink faucet I've earned the ribs that are in the WSM!;)

I would've made him a deal on my 2002 Silverado 2500! This summer I'm going to look for a pre-emissions era GM or Mopar 4x4 plow truck. Rust is acceptable as long as the brake and fuel lines are solid.

Very nice, John! Since you live in California, is that the original paint?

It was nice that you were able to bring in some food. Beers look good!

    New to me 18.5 wsm

I wonder how long he had to weigh keeping the WSM vs. selling it.

Or a small-block Chevy. Or a turbo Buick 3800. ;) Nah, everybody does that. I think it's more of a challenge to see how much I could actually wring out the 4-banger, although there are 2 swaps I'd think about: a Super Duty 4-cylinder if I could find one that didn't cost an arm and a leg, and...

Original tires are 185/80-13, and 195/70-14 and 205/60-15 are upgrades that wouldn't require any speedo changes. I've been looking for some decent original 14" Fiero wheels but they're more expensive than new aftermarket 15" wheels, and since I'm not overly concerned about correctness at this...

It's a base model '85 with the mighty Iron Duke 4-cylinder (92 HP!) and a 5-speed; in fact, one of the reasons I bought it is the manual transmission. It'd been over 10 years since I'd last rowed my own and was really starting to miss doing so. It needs some sorting out but appears to be solid...

Or you could save it for your grandson... A couple of months ago I picked up a warm weather ride. It's far from perfect and could probably bankrupt me if I went all out, but it's fun to drive and you just don't see many of them anymore.

    Beer.

We went to dinner at the local brewpub tonight and I brought home a growler of the Scotch ale. Not bad, but at 8.5% ABV I'd better nurse it!
