    New performer owner

Hi Jacques and welcome to TVWBB. Doesn't that Performer come with a recipe book? I also recommend working through some of the recipes in there to get off to a good start. Weber has selected many of those to insure the success of someone getting started with a Weber cooker. Some of the stuff on...

    Another New/Old Grill

Nice! You probably don't want to hear that I picked up one like that for $40. But mine's an '05 with the thermometer in the middle. It also came with a propane tank with a stuck valve. (stuck open.) The anti-leak valve or whatever they call it will stop flow if the hose is disconnected while...

Bartlett Pear Tree Wood for Smoking?

Hi James, I've never tried the nuts though this would be the year - heaviest crop I recall! I just checked my notes for a "smoking wood test" and wrote: That's not what you might expect.

    butt in the mini

I did my first two briskets on my mini. I got 6-7 lb flats and cut in half, they were a perfect fit. I find it easy to add charcoal since the middle section has handles and is easy to lift. But if I ever get 'round to it, I'm going to make a charcoal basket that goes the full diameter of the...

Bartlett Pear Tree Wood for Smoking?

I've gotten a lot of smoking wood from my yard including maple (box elder specifically) black walnut, mulberry, cherry and lilac. Neighbors have contributed oak, silver maple and pear. I just need a neighbor with apples and hickory. Edit: I just scored some apple from a guy in the next town...

    Keeping it Simple..

I'm not sure I'd call a three step process really simple. I put a rub on my ribs and put them on the smoker until they're done to my satisfaction. But my standards may not be as high as some here. Another really simple recipe I like is beef back ribs seasoned with salt and pepper and cooked...

Bartlett Pear Tree Wood for Smoking?

Yes. Should be fine for smoking, probably similar to apple. Did an arborist tell you they were all male? You just might need a different kind of pear to fertilize them. I seem to recall that at least with apples you needed different types to pollinate each other. Some information I found on...

Craigslist strikes again - with pix

Hi Lew, It is nice to have the choice of firing up a gasser to quickly grill something vs. lighting a chimney of lump for something special. Or stoking either WSM for something truly special. I saw in another thread that you found a great deal on a Performer. That's one of the things on my list...

    '09 Weber Summit Craigslist Score!

Very nice! There have been some great CL finds lately. I guess with the season coming to an end, folks who are on the edge are getting rid of theirs. Please note that my season is not coming to an end. I'll be happily grilling through the Chicago winter.

    ABT's on a Weber Q 100

I make them on my mini-WSM without he water pan (and on the upper grate.) I would think they would be fine on a Q. If you're concerned about cheese running out, choose a less runny mix. I use the recipe from this thread: http://tvwbb.com/eve/forums/a/...0069052/m/4350004152 (using non-fat cream...

    Proud Hubby

That reminds me... SWMBO asked me to show her how to operate the gassers. I need to remember to show her.

    Tried Grilled Bananas?

Just to be clear, the ones I did were peeled. This browns the bananas nicely on the grate but as I noted, they do tend to stick. It hadn't occurred to me to grill them in the peel but that is something I'll have to give a try.

Craigslist strikes again - with pix

I replied to an add for a $40 Weber gas grill yesterday. All I could tell from the picture was that it had extendable tables on both sides and a thermometer in the middle of the hood. It was in downtown Chicago - over an hour drive one way - but about ten minutes from the new grandson. It...

New S-620's at our Ronald McDonald House!

That looks great! It looks like the Summit is an entirely different grill from the Genesis. Thanks for the pix and thanks for your help at the Ronald McDonald House.

how to low and slow on Q 300???

The 300 has a dual burner, no? How hot does it get on just the smaller burner (if you can fire it that way.) Search all forums for "high heat ribs" and see what others are doing. Ribs do not have to be low 'n slow. Disclaimer: I do my ribs low 'n slow with a target temperature of 225°. But...

    Got this for free

Hi Joshua, Welcome to TVWBB and I hope you enjoy your new gasser. I have a couple that are a little newer (2000 and 2001) and they seem to be pretty durable. There are some parts that are consumables like the grate and flavorizer bars and in your case, perhaps the wooden parts. If you can...

    Cleaning up a Q

Hi Peter, Orange flame most likely means not enough air. I'd look for something obstructing the air inlet on the burner. there's a spider web screen and maybe something like a spider web has plugged it up.

In need of a GOOD thermo: ET-723 fails on first cook

That puts it inside the waterproof seal.

18.5 WSM ordered and now some questions....

I'm with Matt on cleaning. I also oil the grates lightly after cleaning to prevent rust. I use a Maverick ET-73 for remote temperature measurement that I'm happy with. They have a newer model, the ET-732, that is supposed to be better. I hope you enjoy the results from your WSM as much as I do!
