We bought a lot of stuff from McMaster-Carr when I was in R&D. Weber would try to primary source them (as McMaster is just a reseller) but sometimes they got stuck with McMaster. Nice work on those grills! looking spiffy!

    Weber Table

Magnets are way cool of an idea. Love the cedar work table. Nice craftsmanship.... now when do we eat?

I was only kidding about being mentioned. But that's pretty hilarious with the notes and everything. I likely "knew" everything from lurking here and Tony liked to talk about himself a lot, lol. I was concerned about starting my hair on fire or thinking about beer. Gary is the packaging guy...

So you've been to my house.

    Smoked boneless chicken breast

These are pretty good as well as those boneless turkey breasts that are found in the freezer section -the bone-in breasts too. No brining when I did mine.

    Big Wheel 18"

Larger diameter is a nice up-gear too which means you get there faster! :D

    Our first small local comp

You have to start somewhere. That's a great first outing. Congratulations.

    Temp Issues

Well it goes to show... There are lots of variables. Even the sun can add/maintain heat, wind, etc. all add variances. Nothing that cannot be overcome obviously. As I had mentioned a moment ago, I used to make a lot of notes. Instead of expecting and trying to maintain constants, I ended up...

Can I get by with the stock thermometer or should I just upgrade.

Everyone here has good experience and advice -there are not rights and wrongs. It can become a good hobby and develop over time adding various accoutrements as you go. Soon you'll develop your own black magic techniques. I tend to set my vents a particular way. Some people pay no mind. Some...

Yeah.. Except Chris never mentioned me in the article. LOL!! KIDDING CHRIS!! You know I <3 you! I just re-read that article and the updates. Funny in the funny sense and the peculiar sense. Seems like the changing in the guard at Weber proved to be a good thing.

Thanks. Chris does rock. As for me, I'm a little out of date now and just have a story here and there. These days I keep my BBQ more basic and really enjoy all the custom creations of grills/smokers/recipes etc that everyone else comes up with. So keep it coming!

Haha! That IS me but my hair was much shorter at the time. I don't think my long-haired, energetic enthusiasm ever went well with my direct boss (not a Stephen family member). LOL. Even back then I had been lurking on this and a couple other forums for a long time. Jim Stephen, Erich...

The original in production design up into the early 80s was lost -they didn't many, if any, original drawings, blueprints or details. Weber has many of the grills they produced in a large warehouse (along with a lot of classic cars) but they didn't have the original 14 WSM. There was a lot of...

Yeah.. I doubt they would as well. Took them years and years to re-release it after the redesign.

Weber says they have discontinued the Hanger Rack for the WSM's for 2017

It's an interesting thing. We see it in BBQ, guitars, cars -everything. Customization! There are so many purists that "can't use a 3rd party veggie basket.. it HAS to be Weber". Yet there are so many innovative things that people come up with. They just have to "let go" of the label and be...

Using less fuel on the WSM 22"

This may be some old news by now, I am sure... I remember when the heat shield was added to the underside of the unit (for UL/CE requirements). Note that these are the old ash catchers from the 26, 22, etc... That in testing a significant amount of heat was directed and maintained in the...

I can completely understand this. Shoulders can be tough on a 14 just because of size and time. Have you tried doing a half shoulder? I've been thinking of trying that sometime. Taking a 6 or 8 pounder that's easy to find and just slicing it in half. At 99 cents a pound, little money...
