If I'd seen this I may have purchased it instead of the $300 wsm I just got. I like the way the rotisserie fits. I have a 22 1/2 platinum as well as a rotisserie. I would definitely consider this instead of getting the 22 1/2 wsm if I outgrow my 18" or want another... $170 seems reasonable. I...

I did purchase fire bricks, but I needed an additional brick and ended up grabbing a paving brick I had laying around...the kind used for constructing driveways from. I have never had a problem with it, and have used it quite a bit.

It never occured to me to put the water pan underneath. I didn't think it would act as a heat sink that way. Good thing I get the extra capacity from it, since I finally got my WSM two weeks ago but due to a missing part I can't use it yet! No word on part availability either...

Your charcoal ring must be a bit smaller than mine. The larger gaps at the ends of the grate are exposed at both ends of mine. It forms a gap at both ends larger than that between the rest of the grate rods. Big deal? Not really. A few small pieces of lump falling through is nothing to cry...

I stand corrected on the vent issue if it is the 22" model in qwuestion. It's not a problem in the '09 18".

So Dave, Does your "classic" wsm have the charcoal grate sitting so close to the vent? As I said, even though it looks close, there is not actually any interference at any of the vent openings. Again though, I have not actually fired her up. I can't imagine Weber moved the mounting holes for...
