    I did notice a little smoke escaping from the hole with 2 probe wires in it. I just crumpled up some tinfoil around the hole. I don't think temp control was affected either way.

    Welcome John! I found the stock thermometer to be lower than the top cooking grate throughout my cooks as well. We'll just have to keep experimenting!
