    Thermometer Upgrade

Joe F: I bought the nut and washer separately. The nut fits the threads of the thermometer without any resistance. I did note the possibility that when I attach the new thermometer to the lid, along with the thickness (or thinness) of the washer and the lid, there may not be enough thread to...

    Thermometer Upgrade

Randall S: You're lucky. On the upside, the temp on the lid thermometer is from 10-20 degrees below the reading on the Maverick. On the downside, the temp on the lid thermometer is 10-20 degrees above the reading on the Maverick. In direct sunlight, there's no relationship between the...

    Thermometer Upgrade

OK, so I bought an upgraded thermometer from Tel-Tru for my WSM, and I find out that the hardware is sold separately...$7 and change, but with a shipping charge of $9.50. So, I go to HD -- they don't have the nut or washer to fit the Tel-Tru. I go to Ace. I get this humongous brass nut and a...

    Pig Candy - First Try

Hello: I'm gonna try Chris Allingham's Pig Candy recipe. He recommends lining the empty water pan to catch the drippings. Why not let the drippings hit the coals, further enhancing the smoke flavor?

Attitude on Weber Summit Charcoal Grill pricing

I'm not a grilling guru. I own a Weber Kettle 22, a WSM 18.5, a Jumbo Joe, a Weber Genesis 1000 (still going strong), and a Camp Chef propane smoker. The new Weber Summit Charcoal Grill, in my humble opinion, is a solution looking for a problem. For those more knowledgeable than I regarding...

    Ah, The Agony of Defeat...

OK, barbecue/smoker brethren and brethrenettes -- I've been "smoke roasting", as Mr. Raichlen calls it, all my chicken, whether it's parts or the whole chicken. I've been using cherry wood, because it gives the chicken a nice deep red color and a nice smoky flavor. I tried apple wood the last...

If it makes you feel any better, I'm 0-for-3 with brisket.

Is my Genesis 1000 resigned to the dustheap of history?

Hello: I'm a bit late to this thread. I, too, have a Genesis 1000, aka "Testarossa." I've replaced the burner assemblies, flavorizer bars, grates, burner tubes, each at different times over the years (since 1997). I noted that the cart is starting to show signs of age, e.g. rust at the...

    Emptying the water pan

I foil the water pan, inside and outside. The next day, or whenever things have cooled down, I take the water pan and a) I'll empty it into a bucket, and carry the bucket down the block to the sewer and dump it, or b) I'll empty the water pan into the lawn, in a section of the yard that's kind...

    26.75

I looked at the 26, and my wife, aka "The Boss", just looked the look that says "NFW", and that was the end of that. I like my 22.5, and I like my WSM 18.5. I'm learning as I go along. We don't entertain but maybe once a year, and it's just the two of us the rest of the year. A 26 is on my...

    weber gas grills_Sales?

This bites the big one. I posted earlier about getting a new E-310. The price seems to be hovering around $699. I can get 5% off with my Lowes card. I guess I won't see anything less than $664.

    E-330 replaced with a S-330

I'm not a fan of stainless steel. But I do like the S-330. Too bad it isn't available in a different style, without the stainless. Is there another model that is, for all intents and purposes, a non-stainless S-330?

    PHOTOS: 2014 Weber Gas Grills

I'm in the market for a new gas grill. I'm looking at the E-310. I'll have to part with my Genesis 1000. Do Weber gas grills EVER go on sale? The price has been hovering around $699. With the Lowes card I get 5% off. Will there EVER be a price better than $699?

    Now? Or wait?

Hello, Everyone: I'm in the market for a new gas grill. I've selected the Weber E-310. I keep checking prices, and the prices seem to hover around $699. I don't recall ever seeing Weber gas grills discounted much, if at all, except for what the stores themselves are offering, e.g. Lowes 5%...

    WSM Use in hot climates?

What THoey said. I have the same problem here on the space coast. I couldn't get the WSM into the "smoke" zone. Even when I removed the cover, the lid thermometer was reading over 150 degrees. As it turned out, the umbrella helped a great deal. More so, seasoning the WSM helped tremendously...

    really dumb question about temperature

Hi: IMHO, there are no such things as stupid questions. There are, however, stupid answers. Hopefully, this isn't one of them. I've been told time and again...it's done when it's done. I've been learning that for pork, for example, it's done when it reaches an internal temp of ____. Ditto...

How Much Crud is Too Much Crud?

Bob: the coals do go out; but, I never timed it. I know that the lid thermometer is way down from when I was actively running the cook; but, like I said, I never time it to see whether or not the coals were completely out. I did a test burn a long time ago to see how the smoker reacted when...
