    Show us your charcoal inventory/stash

I used to stock up but when I moved, I gave up a lot of my storage (downsized for retirement). Plus, I found that I like to try different brands and have some fun catching a sale every now ant then. I got some B&B from Ace when it was on sale earlier this year. I stopped and got a couple bags...

    Wow! Meat prices.

Well, the good news is that the meal was great and everyone ate well. The cherry pie was good too :). My daughter is out of town so it was good to help out the son in law with a good meal he didn’t have cook for the kids. Good Sunday family meal time! Makes the cost a little more tolerable.

    Wow! Meat prices.

I guess I've been eating out of my freezer for too long or maybe finding some great deals, but I just went to the meat market today to get a chuck roast and I was shocked. Almost $10lb. This isn't the cheapest place, so I'm sure there's less expensive meat, but still, at about 3 pounds for a...

Thermapen one on sale, $20% offf.

Just ordered my new ONE. Just couldn’t say no to a good deal on a new gadget. Of course I didn’t need one, but I’m certainly looking forward to trying it out. This will be my fourth Thermopen, not including the two I bought for gifts.

I saw something today that will BLOW YOUR MIND!

My guess is that the pricing won’t be too out of line, but good luck getting your hands on one. Stuff like that gets snapped up in normal times. Add in the current environment of supply shortages and I think that you’ll be lucky to even see one, let alone get the color you want.

I saw something today that will BLOW YOUR MIND!

If that’s it, that did not blow my mind. Cool, but not mind blowing. I’m thinking Chris has something else to share. We‘ll see.

I’m guessing a gas (propane) WSM.

I’m just posting so that I’ll get a notification when Chris posts something. Looking to have my mind blown!

If you refill your propane tanks at Tractor Supply..

So if 80% is considered maximum fill, I think that means 80% fill in a 20lb tank is 20lbs. Just like a gas can is say a 5gal can. You could put more in it but it’s rated at 5gal and when you “fill” it, you should have 5gal but not a full to the brim can of gas.

Tri-tip: This had better be good

Sorry. He never wrote it down. Thankfully, my younger daughter spent some time canning with him and his wife (my in laws, daughter‘s grandparents) and she learned some of the old ways and some recipes. Unfortunately, we lost a lot of their knowledge.

    Thermapen One

I’d get the MK4 while still available. It’s a great price as they close them out.

Instant charcoal variety collection (not mine), 60+ bags, 400 pounds, $300. What would you offer?

I’m with you, you have to keep an eye out for sales. Currently, I don’t use much charcoal and I’ve been trying a few new lumps. However, when I got started, I loaded up the trunk when there was a good sale. There was a charcoal call Rancher that was really good and I got a bunch of that cheap...

If you refill your propane tanks at Tractor Supply..

20lbs is the weight of the propane, not the propane and the tank together.

Instant charcoal variety collection (not mine), 60+ bags, 400 pounds, $300. What would you offer?

Interesting, at HD, the Match Lite is more. 71 cents per pound versus 50 cents per pound for the regular Kingsford. I don’t see how that load of charcoal is worth 75 cents per pound (asking price) anyway you cut it.

Did you notice the Royal Oak Minit Lite? I didn’t even know they made such a thing.

Chuck Roast - Smoke or Smoke/Sous Vide

Of those choices, I would smoke it. I cook it for about 2 hours per pound. I start off with it just on the grate and then foil it about half way through. But for me, this is a cut of meat the I like to cook in my large Dutch oven that I bought especially for pot roast.

Instant charcoal variety collection (not mine), 60+ bags, 400 pounds, $300. What would you offer?

Yeah, too much Match Light and mesquite. I’d pass on that collection.

    Expert advice needed

I would use the water pan (with water) just because it will keep the temps more under control. Under pressure cooks are no time to try new things. There’s enough stress without trying to get temps under control when you’re not too familiar with the cooker. Try cooking without water when you...

    Killagrilla grates

Yes. Slows has the triple threat. I wouldn’t classify it as the best bbq, but it is legit bbq and it is good. https://slowsbarbq.com/menus/2017_GR_JAN_MENU.pdf
