they don't last long, but you don't need much with chicken. Take about a cup of chips and make a pouch out of HD Aluminum foil. Poke some holes in the pouch and set it on top of some lit coals. You'll get enough smoke for chicken. If I were doing beef or pork, I would probably make two pouches and swap them out (replace the first one with a second) after about an hour.
Then I would look into getting some larger wood chunks.
