Living in Alaska, you buy spices and herbs in the small bottles and at dear prices. Most every rub recipe starts with at least 1/4 cup paprika. Do the readers of this board have recommendations as to sources for spices and herbs via the internet/mail order?

You've got 2 Costco's and 2 Sam's Clubs in Anchorage. I'd check there for basic stuff like paprika, although I think they're carrying fewer individual herbs/spices these days in lieu of pre-mixed spice blends.

As far as Internet goes, a search on "online spices" reveals several past discussions & recommendations, including this thread:

Finally, I'm moving this thread to the Recipe Requests and Ingredient Questions Forum, and the Rubs Forum is reserved for posting actual recipes and comments thereof.

In addition to Penzey's (I spend $500/year there--at least) here are a few others I'd recommend as well: The Spice House (http://www.thespicehouse.com/info/home.php), Sweet Freedom (http://www.sweetfreedomfarm.com/chileprods.html) for some chilies, World Spice (http://www.worldspice.com/) (don't miss their Worcestershire powder), Mountain Rose (http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/bulkherb/bulkherb.php), for esoterica and essential oils.
